68 Dart 340 automatic tranny pan gaskit needs to be replaced, what ATF can I use to refill. Is DEX / MERC ok ?

I've always heard Type F but it really depends whats already in it. If DX/M is what has previously been used than that's what you should put back.

one of the very best articles I ever read on torqueflites was in Chrysler Power magazine "Talking Torqueflites"-in which they suggested using the type F fluid-and I've used is since then and like it far better than Dex. If I was to do a pan drop and filter change in a vehicle that had Dex in it, I would drain the torque converter anyway( and not worry too much about the little bit in the lines) and go with type F. Just me...

Or full synthetic atf. I am using royal purple full synthetic atf with great results. I have seen mobil1 synthetic for less and this atf is equally as good in my opinion.

Thanks problem is I have no idea what's in it now , I talked to the guy I bought it from and he took it to a Dodge dealership to have a tranny filter change and he doesn't know what they put in it. Could be F type or ATF+4 no idea.

The dealer most likely used Dexron since that's what it calls for. Type F is Ford fluid and has less friction modifiers so it'll make it shift a little firmer. They mix just fine with each other but don't mix synthetic with them.

Member VOETOM rebuilt my transmission and told me to go to Walmart and buy a case of the cheapest Dexron I could find. He wrote a book on rebuilding the 727 so I'll take his word on it.
