Ordered My Disc Brake Conversion Kit

-
I haven't been happy about the locking flange nut on the upper ball joints, so hopefully this corrected the problem. To start with the supplied nut wasn't even close to being locked! it was a thread or two short. Went to autozone and got a pack of 7/16"-20 grade 8 locking nuts and ground down the bottom to about .335" and then used a grade 8 washer. It did lock and I torqued it down to about 60 lbs. This is for sure a problem with this kit hopefully nobody gets hurt! Other than that with some tweaking its fine.

Hey Mike that kit from your build does look exactly like the Pirate Jack kit which is really MBM Brakes at least that's what was stamped on the boxes. Anyhow the Ram Man brochure was out of Fort Worth Texas and this Pirate Jack kit is out of New Jersey, not saying that they could not have moved. I really don,t have any problems with the locking nuts on the upper ball joints although I do like the cotter key you put in your's. I think the only reason they suggest using the locking nuts is because the original castle nut's did not have a washer between the spindle and the castle nut and the opening is a little bit bigger on the spindle "hence the crush sleeve", I don't see why it would be a problem if you really wanted to use the castle nut again and just install a washer before the nut then put your cotter key back in.

Well I finally took the Barracuda in for it's front end alignment and all went well, as for this Pirate Jack kit if any of you other members are considering a disc brake swap and want to keep your small bolt pattern I highly recommend this kit it was a breeze. I am very happy with it, it stops nice and strait, the pedal feels good and I think it was a great kit for the money.

will this work with 14 inch rallys ?

That is what I have on my Barracuda 14x5.5 small bolt pattern and they work just fine. I am running 205/70R 14's on the rallys. Plenty of clearance.

Hey guys. Eric here from Pirate Jack. We have been using the crush washer for some time now saving a ton of money when changing out those upper arms. Been a great product and were happy to be able to bring this to the market. We did have a few bad rotors but we have taken great measures to make sure they don't get sent out again. Problem solved. Let us know if you need any help or info. Glad it's working out for 66Cuda. I spoke to him at great length about his restoration and he knows his stuff! Thanks again for the support.

Hey Eric great to see you are on board. Your kit was great and I do love my new disc brake conversion kit and as you say the crush sleeve does work very good and saves money and timely work over changing the upper control arms. The problem that Joe is referring to though is the lock nut that holds the new spindle to the small upper ball joint, even though mine is tight and torqued to 60 lbs it still has the appearance of being loose. Not that I think it will ever loosen up or that I will have a problem with it. it just does not look like most of the guy's are comfortable with. One of our members drilled a small hole through the nut and installed a cotter key in it just for safety sake. But that seems to be the only issue with your brake conversion kit and like I stated earlier this was an easy and well engineered kit and I am very happy with it. Once again great to have you on board and if any of you members are thinking about a disc brake conversion kit and want to keep your small bolt pattern wheels this is the kit.
Thanks
Bob

What I ended up doing was putting on a grade 8 fender washer, grinding down a little of the castle nut and drilling out the ball joint slightly to get a cotter pin in. The locking flange nut was never going to work, the threads of the ball joints barely met the lock area, maybe with red locktite. Still not 100% happy with the outcome there. Actually tomorrow the car is going to the upholstery shop to have the vinyl top, headliner and windshields reinstalled. From there it's heading to my mechanic for a front end alligment, we'll see if he has any comments on that. So with all this said the farthest the car has driven was in a circle around my development.
The rotors took a lot of work to stop the rubbing. But again it hasn't really seen the road yet.

Hi, 66 Cuda. I did a disc swap on my 66 Cuda. What did you use for brake lines(model and year) and where did you place the proportioning valve. Would like a picture if possible. Would like to relocate my valve.
Thanks

Bought the lines from inlinetube off eBay and the proportioning valve from pirate jack. Why would you want to move the valve? You should only need the valve, not the splitter that comes with it. Everything worked out fine.

I used the setup from 75 Dart. I mounted the proportioning valve near the frame rail and it's lower than bottom edge of rail.
What year and model did you use for brake lines for 66 Cuda conversion?

Like Joe did, I got my lines and block from In Line Tube. They are correct for the 1966 Barracuda but when I did install them I had to force pull the lines up a little from the block to meet the duel master cylinder that I used to replaced the single one with, other than that they went right on. I am going to be gone for a while, but when I get back I will try to take a good picture of the lines and block set up and post them for you.

Thanks Bob. Have a save trip. Merry Xmas

Sorry it took so long to post, but here are the pictures you asked for of my M/C, M/C lines, and the proportioning valve. I did use the valve and lines from in-line tube for the 66 Barracuda swap. Hope these help if you need any more let me know.

Thanks Bob. Those pictures answer my questions. Looks like I just need to raise my proportioning valve a bit.

Hi all: My first post so please be gentle. :)

Has anyone who has installed the Pirate Jack kit experienced an increase in turning radius?

Humm. My Mechanic recently installed the kit on my 65 Barracuda. My 5 turn steering box is now about a 4 turn. Not a huge deal other than parking is a bit more of an adventure.

Haven't really had mine out a whole bunch since the conversion, I may notice it in the spring when I drive it a little more. It was a strait shot to the front end alignment shop and then back home so not a lot of miles on it since.

Thank you. If you have an occasion to drive your car I would appreciate your review. I am trying to learn if there is an issue or this is the nature of the beast.
