I was planning on going to MRL for a build, and now that I'm' ready Mike is no longer in business. I did a search on this forum ands the web, but didn't find anyone else that just jumped out at me.

Can anyone here recommend a build for a motor build? Its a 340 motor for street use with a 4 spd, looking for roughly 450-500hp/500lbs, but needs to have good street Manners. I'm also in upstate NY.

Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks,

btw - cant seem to change title, should read SB - small block

Enders Racing Engines, Phoenix NY. Kevin and his guys are among the best engine builders in the world.

Finger Lakes Machine, Auburn NY.

Bedell Racing Engines, near Albany.

I would trust anyone of these shops to build anything.

My friend just had a 340 built and dyno tuned at Gor Den Racing engines in West Seneca NY.
He was very happy with how it turned out.

Also J&L Performance racing engines in Lancaster NY
and KTR Racing engines in Cheektowaga NY

These are the ones I know of local to me. KTR did my 318 in 2007 and it still runs strong.
Just saw you were upstate these places would be a good ride for you.

I cannot comment on the mentioned builders, but you will never get 500 lbs of torque from a 340 unless you make a 416 out of it.

Funny you posted this, I was writing/editing almost the same yesterday. Hadnt finished editing because I was adding more, thinking of doing my own build now.

Here in Iowa:
Grawmonbecks Competition Engines in Mason City , Iowa They do a great job and are very familiar with Mopars. They have both engine and chassis dynos.

R&J Performance Enterprises Cedar Falls, Iowa Radar is Mr. Mopar when it comes to heads. He has worked for Gary Ostrich and did experimental work for Chrysler Corp. as well as r&d for the B1 heads and John Force. They specialize in heads but they build many complete engines.
