Weird electrical gremlin

Only your multimeter knows for sure, but I'd wager compromised wiring melting/shorting or possibly a melted connector which is not uncommon (especially on Harleys).

I've seen poorly clocked tail lights do that but the one way only head light connector typically nixes accidental orientation changes.
