I "lost" the original "sixpack" out of my 70 RR back in about 72 or 73 going from San Diego to I guess Dixon to see a friend. This happened at "late night" on the freeway S of stockton. "Do you hear that funny vibration?" I asked my friend? Bla bla bla and Bla bla blizhy blazhy and "maybe a fan belt has a bad spot" etc etc
Wham, blam, thank you mam!!
No 6 rod lost the cap, did some other things, broke one or two rods next to it and one of the broke rods swung around and broke the cam in about 4 pieces, one of which had two lobes on it LOL
So now the valves are all stopped BUT THE PISTONS ARE NOT!!!
One rod went through the block, and it or another went through the pan.
We were lucky the oil and antifreeze didn't slide us off the road at 70 mph.
Walked for hours, and miles, got picked up, taken to a service station in the middle of nowhwere, being closed for the night by two brothers? Cousins? who were well on the road to getting loaded.
Towed the car to the service station, and got a ride in the really drunk wrecker to Stockton. Now it's like 2AM
We are standing on a corner next to a hore-tel thinking about what to do.
Here comes a motorcycle cop who I hail down.
"Hi, my car broke down, what's a good ride out of town?"
"You tried hitchhiking?"
"Sorry you don't understand........we have some money, we are looking for trains, cars, boats, airplanes..........?"
"You tried hitchhiking?" LOL
So we put in a call for 6AM at the whoretel to catch a plane, and when we get waked up, decide, "screw this" "we can rent a Uhaul and tow it back"
NOPE
So we had to hang around town until afternoon, take a BUS to 'Frisco, a taxi to the Oakland airport, and a PSA flight back to San Diego.
Taxi from the airport to National City. Get Gary's truck. He has no hitch. Drive ALL the way from National City N to NAS Miramar, and get my 64 426 Dodge. Rent a towbar. Drive ALL the way back up to "almost Stockton" (again in the middle of the night) to get the RR, where we DISTURBED THE STATION OWNER'S DAUGHTER AND BOYFRIEND who were having a little "fun" in the trailer parked out back LOL
And.............towed the thing all the way home to NAS Miramar
I pulled the valve covers, distributor, and intake manifold, and threw the rest in the dumpster!!!
