how much to shorten the steering shaft when going to power steering

What I did was get a shaft from a car with a collapsing steering column . You can slide it to any length you need. Worked on my B body but will probably work with what ever you are building.
 
When I helped my friend convert his challenger from manual to power, we found a dimple in the shaft that lined up percectly with the roll pin hole in the spare PS shaft I had. Drilled it, chopped the end off the same distance as the MS setup, everything went together perfectly.
