.org has crashed

Chuck stated that's the second time, and they're not being helpful, guess they've rowed enough capital with Danica to not care about the little guys now.................

I'm not "on it". I'm not involved with the administration of that site. I warned Chuck about GoDaddy before and after the first time this happened. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sometimes they listen..............sometimes they don't :BangHead::BangHead:

Can't totally fault Chuck. It takes a lot of work, and I don't know how much money to change servers. dot org exists solely on donations, from users. Chuck makes no money from the site. Chuck has a "regular" job, and a family life. Anyone want to volunteer, to handle the change to a new server?

This kind of thing happens all the time at home and on the internet. GoDaddy not have back ups? I am unfamiliar with how that all works. Sounds like there is a August back up so not all is lost.

Hey Dan. I heard you were responsible for the Lindbergh kidnapping, the Hindenburg explosion, inflation and New Coke. Enough of your terror-reign, already!

Oh, pfft, you don't know the half of it. I'm also responsible for the Pontiac Aztek, cigarettes, dog owners who view the world as their toilet, airplane baggage fees, the Equifax hack (in that I'm responsible for the existence of credit bureaus and debt in general), the vuvuzela, the selfie stick, the twice-a-year futzing with the clock, compact fluorescent light bulbs, and music-on-hold.

Sad to hear this.

There's one rule one should remember when you depend on others to handle your website-data: You never have a backup of your stuff(website) if you don't have it yourself in your own possession!

I host some 80 website-domains on my own VPS (virtual private server) and about half of them have (some semi) active websites behind them.
For me this is a hobby, but even still, I feel very responsible for the data on those websites and the people depending on it.
Therefore everyday a backup is made online on the server itself;
The serverprovider creates backups themselves as well which I can access to restore if needed;
In addition, every 2 days I auto-create my own server-snapshot, after which I usually run any serversoftware backups to keep everything up to date;
About every 2 weeks I download an entire backup to my home computer.

Never wonder if a server-crash will happen, but wonder when.

Yep... I've been admin on a couple small sites and you always want to do a backup on a regular basis. Usually it's matter of a couple mouse clicks and a zipped copy downloads to your own computer.

Computing without an up-to-date backup is like driving without a seatbelt: you get away with it for a long time until very suddenly you don't.

Web hosts operating as a hobby doing regular backups is very nice.

Web hosts being paid for that service not doing regular backups is…well…as I say, I warned him about GoDaddy.

So you're the one!:rofl:

Look, if You think throwing Us that "Aztek bone", is going to get You off the hook for the Rendevous too, forget it You Son-of-a.........................................

Okeh, okeh, you've got me bang to rights. Also the Ford Clown Victoria and the Stinkoln Clown Car and those irritating "America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses" ads.

You must be stopped at once...

They were duly warned by a very respected member. They chose not to listen. Now,whose fault is that?

Now hold off a sec; I'm not slagging Chuck here, I'm slagging GoDaddy. Chuck gets to do what he wants—it's his board, his hobby, his say-so, start to finish.

I get that......but nonetheless. Ain't none of us perfect, that's for sure. I sure hope they get it restored.
