How can they keep the doors open? Their website sucks @ss and their prices are 20% higher than everyone else. Great business model.

If I'm willing to get raped I'll let Classic Ind. do it. At least their website is good plus their catalogs are a good reference.

What MORON took over Y1 and drove that company into the ground? They used to be pretty good. Sad.

My guess is that they cater to all these "Resto" start up shops that think they are God's gift to restoring our cars but are too stoopid to find the best deal on parts.

Rant over.

when I talk to shops, they say they just go there as it is easiest for there parts man to get parts for all cars in the shop. great bible to see what's out there as I get a coupon at shows and get a catalog every year. sign up for emails and wait for 30% - happens 3-4 times a year.

I think PG Classic has the highest prices. PG Classic Restoration Parts - Specializing in Mopar Parts
I use year one for some stuff. Its like anything, you need to shop around and find the best prices.
Here is a good example.
1966-74 A B E-Body 1967 1969 A Body A T
331-AW Mopar 1969-70 A-body Console Woodgrain Inserts
1970-1976 Dodge Dart Parts | MA590 | 1970-76 Mopar A-Body With Automatic Transmission Console Woodgrain Inserts | Classic Industries
Looks like classic wins this one. Not to mention, YO and PG do not list the application years correctly.

Here's an example.
If you research it, this tank is ultimately made by Spectra. Same damn part. I called AMD and Y1 and they both confirmed it. AMD's price was in line with JEGs but even AMD added extra handling because of the size plus shipping. (I like AMD, don't get me wrong) The JEGs price is free shipping....period.

God forbid what Year 1 would tack on to this part. A stainless sending unit and lock ring can be had for $30-$40 so don't let that fool you.

What cracks me up the most is on the Y1 site it says "Click on Image for Detail". You click on the tiny image and all it gives you is another tiny image the same size as the one you clicked on.

Total horse ****.

I agree to a certain degree.
However most "rich" people are "rich" because they're not stupid.

Everybody is "stupid" or "ignorant" about something. Lots of rich people are too stupid, ignorant, or just plain lazy to learn how to work on their own cars.

****, I know more so called "poor" people that are too ignorant or stupid to work on their own cars than I do so called "rich" ones.
I suppose it comes down to one's definition of "poor" and "rich".

My true definition of rich is knowing Jesus Christ. Aside from that, nothing else is relevant.

I bought a tank for a Duster for under $50.
That is not a typo either.

If yall want to buy Spectra tanks, but from a local source, go to your nearest O'Reilly. You may have to supply a part number, because not everything shows in their system, but they carry the Spectra line and can get virtually any of those part numbers at pretty competitive prices for the big box stores. You can save shipping and deal with someone face to face. That's always better for warranty issues.

I agree, year one's website is horrible. I use the catalog to find part numbers. The site is impossible to navigate.

I agree with a lot of what is said. It IS really convenient to be able to get everything in one place at one time. You can save some money by shopping around. But if you need 30 or 40 things, do you really want to screw around spending 10-12 hours on 15-20 separate transactions? I don't. When I went through the 69 Barracuda a few years ago, I got almost everything from Classic. I am on their Email list, and I get 25% and 30% discount notifications all the time. Shipping isn't cheap, but it IS cheaper than what Y1 charges. Y1 rapes you on shipping. I did find better prices on a few bigger things like a gas tank and carpet on Ebay. But the bulk of the stuff was from Classic. I am not rich. I do OK, but I like the idea of being able to get most or all of what I need from one place at reasonable (with the 25-30% of sales) prices.

Yes but then tack on Classic's shipping and bull$hit insurance charge and I bet they're higher.
Plus if you look at the details those aren't even the same parts you're comparing Mike.

Ebay here mostly. Some local parts store. Used order from Paddock when they were around. Were not too bad on shipping. Sigh! Occasionally swap meets @ car shows also have descent deals. But shows are a few times a year. Once ordered from Stephens performance but was many moons ago.

I just recently bought a turn signal cam w/ wiring from year 1, it was 1/3 the price of anyone else, even an elec. expert on this forum. They did charge a little too much (I thot) for shipping and ins., but was still over a $100 cheaper than the guy on here, which was about $50 cheaper than others. Turns out that wasn`t what my problem was anyway, now I have a stock one laying around.

I buy a ton of parts on buying trips,,i buy a lot off ebay, and online stores...I have a good deal with classic industries, (my orders are large)...I spend a lot of time comparing prices ...it seems to me that classic industries win out by far with my discount, I buy off ebay mainly the stuff they don't have, used parts etc...ihave bought parts off guys here and never a problem...I will say the americans know what service means!!..unlike here in Australia.

Year One is a long standing American business with brick and mortar retail stores here in the states. I have been in their Braselton GA store a few times. They hold events for charities there in their parking lot too. I find American workers with American wages, retirement plans, taxes, etc... Neighbors I can relate to.
Do you really expect Year One to compete with online/warehouse vendors, foreign or not? I don't.
The larger picture behind your whine...
I expect the day will come when Macys can no longer afford those annual parades, fireworks shows, etc... Amazon or Walmart will pick up those? I wont bet on that.
I'm sending a big Thank You to Year One, Macys, and all those other American retailers who have done so much for all of us for so many years.

Year one and the big box outlets like PG and Classic cater to the "open the catalog and get out the credit card" crowd! I guess I must be old school, because I never buy anything from online stores such as this! I simply do my homework, because I'm not in a hurry to buy anything, let alone dozens of parts at once, and then I take my list to shows like the Nats, where I can buy in person, and cash and carry it home! If I know that a part comes from a certain vendor, I call that vendor and have it brought to a show near me!!

Like Legendary Interiors for instance!! To me, it's common knowledge that all of the big box vendors all sell Legendary, and since their quality is the best, I simply avoid anybody that doesn't sell them, even if products like "Pro/fit are a little cheaper! Instead of buying my interior stuff from Year One, I call Legendary, have them bring my stuff to a show near me, save shipping, and get their show discount!

Too many people are in a hurry to get things done, and overspend for the convienience of opening the catalog and getting out the credit card!
