SpongeBob SquarePants sitting atop my air cleaner lid

While studying the prospect of carb/intake manifold/air cleaner changes and combinations it becomes necessary to consider air cleaner to hood clearance. My findings for a '72 318 Bbody shows I have more than 1" and less than 1 5/8" air cleaner lid to inside hood insulation pad clearance at the moment. Trying to figure out if an early non-silenced ('68-'69 factory 340) air cleaner can be adapted to the Carter 2-barrel BBD for fun (the 340 build comes later and is not ready yet). The air cleaner adapter I am considering using is 3/4" high.

I used kitchen sponges of varied thicknesses and some white viscous stuff (GOJO creme hand cleaner-you can use something else if you want to). The orange sponge was about an inch high and I went up from there (stacking).

P.S. I hope the watchdogs on this site don't judge this post too graphic and make it disappear.
