68 Valiant Auto 3 speed tranny on Slant 6

This morning, my son who drives our 68 valiant calls me and says the car wont go anywhere. It wont go in gear and move. I ask him to try putting it in reverse and see if it might be the drive gears or maybe something else. it wont budge. Then he sends me this picture. What could cause this type of leak on these trannys? Is there a rear seal on the tranny that can go bad? What do I look for once I get home? He had it towed to the house.

Cooling line to radiator?
I bought my 68 in CA and after working on it most of the day, Max and I took it out to pick up pizza. When we came out, the car would not move. Previous owner had run hose from trans to rad and one of the clamps let loose. Screwdriver, 3-4 qts of ATF and we were in business.

That's what it looks like. If he was sitting there with the car in gear, it could pump that much out in no time at all! And same thing applies if it could be a bad front seal I suppose.

yeah. He got to the stop and you can see a trail the whole way to when he couldn't go any where.
is there an easy way to check it to see where all the fluid came from?

If there's a rubber hose involved, that’s the first place i’d Look. 2nd place would be one of the fittings at the cooler - maybe one of the fittings cane loose from vibration or metal fatigued and cracked. Since it looks like it happened pretty quick, chances are it’s not the front seal.
 
Yeah - that should be easy to locate... Non-transmission rated rubber hose is huge mistake for anything but spot repair to get home. Steel lines can rust through and be good one second and burst the next. Pump seals can dump a lot in a very short time too but normally there's a huge smoke cloud too.
 
Thanks for all the input on this one. We found the issue. Looking at the motor, the rubber hose that connects from the radiator to the rigid line on the right side popped loose and let out all the fluid.
My next question is this:
When we replace the line and start putting fluid back in the tranny through the dipstick, is there anything special we have to do to make sure everything has enough fluid ion it before driving it?
 
I’d start off with a quart, put it in gear and check. Continue filling and checking the level as you normally would.

Replace the hose(s) with the correct size hydraulic hose if needed.

I dont have to worry about the torque converter? Does it hold any fluid?
 
After adding the first quart and checking it in gear, the pump will add fluid to the torque converter if/as needed.
 
Your trans cooler lines (2) are steel. Use NO rubber for a (patch,splice etc). except to get you home in bind. You can order them (pair) from any Mopar vendor. $45 plus shipping , right?? When checking fluid, do so in Neutral. When warming up your old car, put it in neutral also.
