I was trying to find a spare slant that I could build on a stand while the other motor is still in the car but its not looking like I'm going to have any luck.
Go over to slantsix.org and post a request in the parts wanted section. There are several members in your general area. Someone might have a rebuildable core. I have several, but am in Florida.
 
Ill do that and see what I can come up with. Although my Slant is pretty healthy right now. with 76.5k miles its still read 150 across all 6 cylinder +/- 10. So I may just rework the head and then get busy with the turbo setup.
 
Hi FABO- first time poster here. Just want to chime in and say that turbo slant 6's aren't dead- I just completed a home made turbo setup on my 1964 Dart. The basics are 225 slant 6, push button 904, home made draw-through turbo kit with an ebay t3/t4 57mm turbo internally wastegated at 8psi. I am using the stock exhaust and intake manifolds. Ignition is a stock distributor with a Pertronix ignitor I module, MSD blaster coil, and the FBO timing plate bought off ebay. Timing is locked at 17 or 18 degrees. Running an overly-large Holley 770cfm street avenger with vacuum secondaries (chose this one because a friend had it and it was cheap). I'm keeping an eye on the tune up with an AEM wideband, using a stock mechanical fuel pump. I think I'm at 66/70 for front & rear jets, black accelerator pump cam, and I think a 25 for the accelerator pump nozzle. Currently wide open is about 11.5, cruise is 13.8-14.2, and idle is usually around 13.0 although it seems to have a mind of it's own at times. I think there may be some fuel pooling issues I need to account for; it likes to load up if I let it idle for a couple minutes. Driving around and varying the throttle it has no ill manners but if it just sits and idles it loads up. I have one mopar style air oil separator breather and another pipe fitting stuffed into the rear breather on the valve cover, both dumping into a gatorade bottle catch can. It uses a lot of oil and internet sleuthing says it may be because of the draw through turbo without carbon seals. Makes great power (not dynoed but tremendous seat of the pants increase) and is way more driveable getting on the highway and keeping up with traffic. Hopefully this combo lives for a while, I really kind of like it! If it does blow tomorrow (it may) hopefully I'll at least have learned something from it. I got a lot of info from here and slantsix.org so thank you all for putting your builds out there for me to get information from!

Can't see it in your photo, but you should heat the carb base. I have a draw thru, that I built in 1979, and had idle surge, untill I heated the carb adapter with heater water.
PS: My turbo had the seals. It was designed for draw thru.

Yeah right now the carb base is out in the open- I have read about people needing to heat them but wasn't worried about that initially. This was an experiment for me and now that it seems to actually work I intend to refine it some. Surprisingly mine doesn't surge at idle, it just gets loaded up and cranky.

I think my favorite part about this is the downpipe blasting the fender.lol! Was this tough to drive from exhaust fumes? or not really?

Haha thanks- It's pretty dirty. And unbelievably quiet. The fumes are there but it's not too bad.
 
Now Im no master mechanic but aren't you looking at reliability issues putting fuel in before the turbo.
Usually i see turbos on efi vehicles and when ran with a carb the turbo pushes into the carb not drawing from it. This might be why you have issues at idle also.

What kind of issues are you refering to? When turbos first came out (in the 1960's) on american cars, they were all draw thru. The main issue that draw thru turbo has, is the new(er) turbos do not have the proper shaft seal, to prevent oil from being drawn into the intake system, in non boosted conditions. My 170 turbo, draw thru, uses a modified Corvair turbo, which has the proper seal, as the Corvair was originally used with a Carter 1 bbl side draft car on the inlet of the turbo. I am using a 500 cfm Holley 2 bbl. on a 90 degree adapter. I did have problems with fuel puddling, at idle, in the adapter, untill I heated it with water.
PS: Do not use a intercooler with a draw thru setup. You don't want a intake "backfire" with a cooler filled with a combustable mixture of air/fuel. Can you say "BOMB".

Turbo slant to a n/a v8 is apples to oranges, I seriously doubt that there is a forced induction slant that will run with a forced induction v8...just saying.....
Factoid: This is oranges to apples, but over on the Lexus SC site (my weekend driver) the fastest SC is a turbo 6, even topping the turbo V8s. But the slant is cursed with a low flow head design so that is a huge obstacle to clear.
 
hey guys, I was looking for some info on a turbo setup for my slant 6... I have a 225 slant six .30 over and id like to do a blowthrough setup. I'm hoping to make around 350hp I seen a lot of people are using a t3/t4 turbo, anyone have any suggestions for a carb I should use? or if anyone knows any better setups for a blowthrough setup that I can make 300-400hp id appreciate any input. thanks!
 
I like the idea of doing something out of the box not letting HP being the main goal. I own a supercharged 2.2 liter 85 duster. I wanted to be different.
 
Photos are of 225 slant six, Fish carb, draw thru/suck thru, almost there. Photos show progress in steps. Not finished. Lacks 180 to intake manifold. Needs hot air system for air cleaner. Fish is 1 Bbl. It all fits under the hood. Enjoy wondering.

Isn't your "Fish carb" rated for about 1300 CC and a slant 225 is about 3700 CC?

Let's take a closer look at the carb. See the big float bowl? It's rated for 5.7L. It's tuneable. I didn't mention that it is also 2" bore. I had a 1.75" that I ran on a 440 and a 2.6 Mitsubishi. Stupid me, I sold the carb with the car.
 
Would like to post more photos, but the site says they're too big, even one that is smaller than the last one posted. Anyway, final mock up was attempted to post. Imagine an inverted "U" pipe welded on a flange to the intake manifold, from the turbo compressor connected with a blue hose at the compressor with 2 hose clamps. Not visible are the trans cooling lines passing to the left side of the steering box to the shortened steel lines from the trans.
 
Final installation. Missing pressure gauge and broadband gauge. Next step: start up and run through heat cycles, wrap with header wrap, tune. Air cleaner assembly is stock four barrel off of Dodge van. Almost factory appearing.

Here's mine! 225 in a 1966 Dodge Dart with a GT4082 turbo and MegaSquirt-III fuel injection. Still sorting out a few hopefully minor bugs on a fresh rebuild. The previous build (on a 200,000 mile motor!) put about 120 to the wheels at 5 psi before a rod bearing failed from a clogged oil pickup. I plan to go for a bit more boost once this is sorted - and have also made a few budget tweaks to the engine, including a used Comp cam and some port work.
