I have a 67 dart gt that I got in August. I put a 318, 904 in from a 68 coronet. I got it running (with issues) but it does run. Took it for its road test today and....when I got to about 20mph it kicked out of gear (like pushing the clutch on a manual). Then it went back in to gear. Sped engine to 3200 rpms and it wouldn't shift.
So this is my first mopar and how exactly does it shift? I don't have kickdown linkage hooked up. On my Pontiacs, there's a vacuum Module that shifts the car. Any idea what I need to do here? Thanks

The transmissions of these cars DO need the "kickdown" linkage to be in place and functioning for the transmission to operate properly.

That’s a quick way to kill that transmission. Make sure you have all the components before you attempt to drive it again. I’ve got a few full sets for that car if you’re looking for one.

I have all of the linkage but how does the lower rod stay attached to the shift arm? There isn't a hole for a cotter pin

They never used a cotter pin. There were THREE designs that I know of.
1) they used a metal wire spring clip that goes through a hole.
2) There was a rubber or plastic grommet that snapped into a hole.
3) There was a swivel metal spring clip that was similar to the clips that retain the inner door lock and latch rods.

Thanks ill have to figure out something

Please start by going to MyMopar and download some service manuals, at least the one for 67 and "whatever you think" the transmission/ engine setup is out of. There are diagrams in there of the kickdown and how to adjust it

Also spend some time browsing through the "Master Tech Conference" stuff, and not necessarily the same year. There are good articles on there about tech issues

Looks like you are getting some good help. FYI, going forward, you might make the title of your thread a little more descriptive. Some members may not have time to open every single thread. so the more descriptive your title is, the better the chance is that the "right" people will open and respond to your request.

Makes sense. Thanks

Google 1/4 inch linkage clips. You will see what you need. There are lefts & rights.
