I' building a wire harness for the race car and I'm confused about the Alt wiring.

I have a 3 wire alt.
So big black wire to battery.
Then next to that is a blue and a black wire on one space.
Next to that is a green wire marked field.

My understand is one wire (green) "field" powers up the magnets and is the on off for the Alt.

The black and the blue wire are What?

With a race set up. No ignition switch, just a push button and a toggle for the msd. How do i wire the alt?
Green wire to the toggle (ignition switch) ?

Black and blue to the hot wire feeding my gauge cluster?

The other problem I have is my steering box.

I have a power steering box out of a 71 dart and I want to Install a manual box out of a 64 Plymouth. The 64 box has a thicker input shaft and won' fit the joint on my steering shaft.

I may be able to pull the joint off the 64 shaft if my buddy still has the shaft and will let me take it.

What are my options here?

Thanks for all the time and advice.

ALT:

Assuming you are talking about a Mopar without an internal regulator (Delco, etc) blue comes from on/off switched ignition and powers the field. Green hooks to the F terminal on the regulator. The I terminal on the regulator then goes and "Ts" into the switched power. VR MUST be well grounded to "same as battery"

this?

Ok thanks. I was wondering what box was on the fire wall. I was about to toss that sucker in the trash. Glad I asked. :)

Any ideas about the steering shaft connection?

Thanks for all the help.

And cuz I know how much we all love pics, here's a new one.

Cut the inner fenders out and tied the cage in to the front

So you've found the power and manual shafts are different sizes. You may also know the power steering column shaft is about 3 inches too short for a manual steering box. I'm pretty sure the aftermarket power to manual adapter will solve both issues. It fits the power steering box coupling and extends length to reach and fit the manual box. There are a few vendors with a wide range in pricing. Hope this helps.
