Reset PC to factory settings. Wow, what a pain in the arse. I have everything backed up/saved on two places, but the pain partcomes from retrieving it all. And reason I reset was cause of corrupted user account which left me unable to download PDF files. I lived with it for several years. And I'm thinking all because I tried windows 10 upgrade and then went back to 7 home premium. I have a busy day ahead of me.

I'm limping along with computer problems myself. My wife plugged her e-cigarette into one of my USB ports to charge it and something didn't like it. I'll probably have to back it up and reinstall.

I feel for ya, it can be a pain. Just came back from checking progress. Shortcuts on desktop, but since it is still retrieving I didn't interrupt to try any. Tried to get mail server to work, but have some work to do there. Says I have incorrect p/w, but unable to show password on other devices. And can't connect to my bank online. Have the right address...... I'll keep plugging along.

Forgive the drama....LOL. I am back in action for the most part. Still need to d/l Office and fix media player. Other than that all good. It definitely pays to have a current back up. A GOOD current back up.

When you get things back the way you want them, it might be a good idea to create a drive image. With one you can restore everything exactly as it was at the point you created it. Nice to have in the event of a virus infection, HD crash or whatever.
Norton Ghost is good, but a bit pricey. Clonezilla is freeware and will do the trick as well.

I thought, emphasis on THOUGHT, that I was backing up only the things that had chang d every day...... At least the settings said so. LOL. The external drive didn't have it for some reason.... But I had the major things restored, which counts. Favorites and contacts are there. Media player has a goofy error message, still working on it, but low priority. All in all, pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Well, since I restored to factory settings, I had years of Windows updates to redo. Seems that some or maybe one of those updates has something to do with the Media Player because now it works.....LOL

I'm "behind" on Winhozed, pretty much quit with sleven. There are, or used to be places you could "find" at Microshaft to download what you want as in for IT people. This way you don't have to go through all the update madness. You get these, you burn them to CD or USB stick, and don't have to "re" download them

Also, someone above mentioned "making an image." When you first get the basic OS set up and updated, make an image with something like Acronis so you have a "clean" starting point THAT IS NOT "on" your hard drive.

I think they go to a 'protected partition' these days. Or that is what mine has.
