The Byrd ,and psychedelic,.. rock thread. .

I grew up in the Chicago area and discovered rock & roll on the radio in the early 60s when I was about 10 years old, and never shut it off. WLS at first, then WCFL came on, both very powerful stations, their signal carried hundreds of miles.

The variety of music and how it evolved as the 60s went along was incredible. At first it was the tail end of doo-wap, then the girl groups and guy groups like the 4 seasons, all the surf and car songs out of Cali, then the British invasion, motown, the psychedelic stuff and on and on. And I got to hear and grow to love it all.

After the British invasion inspired millions of teenagers to pick up musical instruments, some of the garage bands that came from that were good enough to get a record deal and get airplay. There were maybe 10 bands from the Chicago area that made it on the radio, mostly locally but a couple had nationwide hits.

Anytime I hear the music from back then it brings up good memories and good feelings.
