why do people help make old cars look bad

I can see a person describing their preferences...I am often an opinionated, judgemental guy that speaks as if MY opinion outweighs the opinions of others. Blacked out grilles are not controversial though, Body color bumpers either.
Body color bumpers are not just the idea of individuals...Some cars were built that way from the factory. All new cars have tucked in, molded plastic type bumper covers. New trucks are about the only places you see chrome on a late model vehicle. No chrome trim around the windows, rarely any chrome mirrors or door handles either.
The grille? Several cars from the "classic" era featured performance models where the grille was painted black to differentiate it from the non performance models.
True in most cases. But our 2016 Chrysler 200C is pretty loaded with chrome, granted the base model 200’s have very little chrome. Here’s a pic of one identical to ours.

Interior has wood grain and a gold chrome trim.
