Bob Glidden RIP

-
I met Bob at the 79 Winternationals, I was introduced to him by a neighbor who you all know, Bob Mullen. I got the honoe between rounds to sit in the driver's seat of the arrow.

This is a sad day indeed! I watch him run and win several races from the 70's until he retired at the Gatornationals. One of the hardest working men in drag racing! RIP Bob.

A true champion.
You'll be missed, Bob.
But the memories will live on.

How sad. I saw from a post from Robert Landy on Facebook that Bob was not doing too well. He was perhaps my favorite driver. A real gentleman. May he RIP.

Very sad. RIP Bob

When he rolled the arrow off the trailer and it ran like a 7.83 on the first pass them boys in prostock knew they were beat befor it started.

So you know Bob Mullins? What happened to him? Is he still alive?

Sorry for derail.

R.I.P. Bob, you were one of the best.
He'll be match racing his Fords in heaven with Sox, Landy, the Grump, and many more just like the good old days.
He was one of the best hard working racers i ever met, and very innovative.
Nice guy to talk to as well.........
You'll be missed.

IHe moved out of the neighborhood and when he closed his shop is Carson, I lost contact with him. I had moved out of the area too. He used to have a flow bench in his garage and would make clay clylinder ports and would test how they would flow. I remember the many versions of thw W2 ports he had on a shelf. There was going to be a W2 style head for the big blocks, but the big wigs at chrysler killed that project.

The next time it's cloudy out and you think you hear thunder in the distance...

Another one of the greats is gone. I remember him being an intense competitor and thinking he wouldn't take a day off until he passed. Take that well deserved break, sir.

I have read that the w2 port design that worked so well on the small block did not work at all on a big block and that's why Chrysler killed it.

that is partially true, Bob was trying to find the exact intake design that would work on the BB, but before he did the project was killed. Chrysler was in finicial problems then and they were killing anything that would not bring in the cash in immediately.

Yep, the development time was just too short.
