Hey slant brothers. I bought some new battery cables and wonder where is best place to ground the battery. Currently it goes to one of the bolts for the water pump. But that makes the cable path sorta bend around to avoid the Fan.

I am curious where you guys attach that ground from the battery?
p.s. the cable I bought has a 2nd lead that I ground to the front of the car to the piece that the radiator attaches to.

Factory ground location is one of the three bolt holes at the lower left front corner of the block, where a power steering pump bracket would attach if your car had P/S.

Ok great. So I do have power steering, but the mount sure looks kooky. So is it best to maybe go to one of the bolts on the mount itself on the back??

You want to go direct to the block if at all possible. (And get it away from the AL housing of the pump.) You might want to put a longer bolt through the pump so the threads stick out of the back enough to put a nut and washer there to ground the lug to the back of the pump housing cast in the block. Or use a stud through the pump and block with nuts and washers on both sides at that point.

P/S cars still had the battery negative cable running to one of those bolts -- just route the cable under the bracket (which looks like an ordinary P/S pump bracket; what do you find kooky about it?) and then turn the end of the cable upward so the ring terminal at the end points up. Secure it with the lowermost pump bracket mount bolt.
