Well I started installing my 2.5" exhaust system on the 73 340 dart sport today. Ran into a few issues so far. Its a 340/727 and running the stock exhaust manifolds (73). The driver side manifold pipe fit beautifully. The passenger side fits great up until where it passes the trans and heads towards the crossmember. It looks like they didnt bend it far enough because the pipe is too low and is angled out in the direction of the rocker panel.
Second issue was the pipe hit the oil filter so I need to put on a 90° adapter. I kinda knew this ahead of time and have an adapter ready to go on.
Next problem is the muffler hangers are nowhere close to lining up to the seatbelt bolts like the instruction says. This seems to be a common problem as I saw many posts about it.
The last issue involves the exhaust tips. TTI moved the hanger location 5" back and if I use that the tips wont stick out past the bumper. If I use the stock location they wont slide on the pipe because it will be on a bend. Yep, gonna have to cut back before the bend and add a section of pipe.
This sucks to pay $700 for an exhaust system and still end up with a cobbled mess.

only issue i had was when i put the head pipes on they hit the crossmember.. then i looked a little closer at it and realized i had to trim the head pipe and the X-pipe bend brought it away from the crossmember. and the tail piper were way too long.. had to trim them back some to look right. muffler hangers fit perfect for me..

I used a different oil filter and had a little space.

Someone in the holiday cheer already? Haha. Frankly I bought the accurate exhaust and the TTI downpipes just to compare. Let's just say I will be selling TTI downpipes soon. JMO.

I will say the tail pipes fit really well other than the issue of getting the tips to install correctly. If I wanted to keep the turn downs they are spot on.
Im going to work on it again tomorrow and hope to get it finished. Its a good thing I have it on a friends lift, would be a nightmare without it.
A shorter filter would not have helped, it was hitting the side of it. This largely depends on which manifolds your running. The PH8A was a tight fit even without the larger exhaust. Hopefully it will fit good with the adapter. I really dont like running the shorter PH43.
abodyjoe, what car did you install on?

70 dart. I kept the turn downs. They must be made for a 67-69 dart because they stuck out way too far and looked stupid.

Let me see if I can find pics.

I also did it on a lift. Would have wanted to kill someone if I had to install it laying on my back. Lol

i could swear i had pics with the x-pipe and all installed but can't find them..

Ph43 works fine, but I believe I went with a Purolator and it was even shorter on my 74 duster 360

Almost done. I say almost because I ran into yet another problem. Now the shift linkage is hitting the exhaust so I cant get it in drive. A very small ding would give it clearance but its going to be tough to get to the spot. I also had to re-route the starter cable. Might have been fine if I was running a mini starter.
I used a PH8A filter with the 90° adapter. It has just enough clearance to change the filter.
I need a spring on the heat riser shaft, it rattles terrible. I never noticed before because of all the exhaust leaks. The engine compartment is so quiet that the noisy pcv valve is driving me crazy.

I also left it with turn downs for now. I have a plan to install the tips and it should be fairly easy. I do need to address some rust on the side of the frame where the tip hanger mounts......another day.

TTi gives you directions when using their head pipes < I had to cut the trans linkage and ran a mini starter

The directions said nothing about the shift linkage. I did have to modify the kickdown bell crank per instructions. Im going to make a ding in the pipe, shouldnt take much.

I am putting TTI head pipes on my 73 Duster now. Running HP340 manifolds. Running a 4 speed that we just swapped in tonight. Drivers side fit gorgeous. Passenger side... I have no idea how it’s going to even fit between the factory bell and torsion/oil filter. I have an aluminum factory adapter. I just have no idea how it can even work. Are there different 90 degree adapters that work better? Very disappointed so far. Do you have to install the head pipe first then torsion bar? I didn’t receive any instructions in my box. Thanks.

yes but also slight angle from what i remember.. my passenger side was cake.. driver side i had trouble getting on the bolts with a wrench torsion bars and suspension were all in the car.

I’m going to work on it more here today. I believe there will be a torch, hammer, cussing and a bible involved. Did you put yours in place with torsion bars in?

On mine I have the filter facing the rear and angled slightly downward. It runs parallel with the frame and sits slightly higher than the frame rail seam.
I put the adapter on finger tight and then slid the pipe in place. Adjusted the filter and then removed the pipe so I could torque the adapter. Then slid the pipe in and bolted it up. No need to remove torsion bar on mine. That could vary depending on which manifolds you have. Mine are stock 73 340.

i Bought a 90 degree oil filter from the classifieds here. It’s not a 90 degree. The pipe fits perfect... the oil filter hits everything.

Tony Defeo hooked he up with a real 90 adapter today. I’m all in. Just barely touches the pitman arm. I mean barely. Wonderful fit I’d have to say. Thanks guys.
