These bulbs were most commonly used on the 64/65 Barracuda grill turn/parking lights. Just wondering if anyone has a reliable source for these. Seems the well has run dry here in Canada. Rather than paint the standard clear 1034s I would rather source out some of the originals.

1034 bulbs are dual filament like 1157’s.
1157na are common, just need to mind the wattage. I thought the 1034 were higher cp.

NAPA in my town stocked them but I used clear and dyed my lenses amber because I like the look a lot better.

If you really want 1034A, with painted type coating, Dan Stern used to have them. 10 per box. minimum one box. (Bewarned of a new feature since I bought a box - you might have to put up with 3 paragraphs why he doesn't like the aesthetic.) If he doesn't and you can't find any in Canada, contact me - I doubt I'll need all of them in my lifetime.

As others have stated, the 1157 bulbs are generally used to replace 1034, so the need to manufacture (ie demand) is not there. Many (if not all) of the newer amber bulb tint the glass - so with clear lens parking lamps you can see the difference (say if you're judging for originality, or just like the look).

Specs: Don's Bulbs 1034A, 1157NA
Dan Sterns's Big Table of Little Bulbs
They don't quite agree, go figure, but both do indicate 1034 will draw a little less current for the turn signal and the turn signal filiment is not expected to last as long (as an 1157).

The 1034A painted bulbs create a distinctive look in the 64-65 Barracuda front turn signals so the original painted bulbs are desireable. They have also become fairly hard to find. I think there is still someone who re-creates them. If I think of who it is I'll post the name. Slantsixdan probably knows off the top of his head though.......try asking him in a PM.

Here's a couple of pictures of the correct ambers.
GE 1034 with brass base that I removed a few months ago, and next to the Sylvania unused old stock.

1034 and 1157 put out the same amount of light. 1157 has a much longer lifespan, and draws a little more current, so you have to match the turn signal flasher to which kind of bulb you're using. 1034-type flasher with 1157 bulbs = too fast, other way around = too slow.

Sounds like what you want is the bulbs that look like they were painted with leftover school bus paint, rather than the current transparent amber ones. Old stock bulbs are around. Those were 1034A or 1157A. I don't have any. I think Old Car Parts Northwest has some on shelf. There was a guy on Fleabay selling new-production ones; don't know how good they are (or were), but I don't see them any more. If you strike out at OCPNW, old-stock ones go by on eBay all the time, like here and here.

(they started using "NA" for Natural Amber, 1157NA/1034NA, when they came up with the transparent tinted glass, but then they figured out how to make a transparent amber coating and some companies went back to the "A" designation for those even though they look like the transparent-glass ones rather than the painted ones).

You won't get any paragraphs from me about aesthetics—you might get a squawk from me if you do (or propose doing) something unsafe.

That orange/amber transparent coating seems to be peeling of a lot recently, and varies in shade quite a bit, the parts kid hands Me two for a cust's car and I go to put them
in and I'm like WTF? I go back and tell him to match the "orange'r" one up and give it to Me, cheap *** Chineseum ones almost don't even look tinted!!! I'm sure actually
tinting the glass today will cost You $5 a bulb....LOL!...........................

These are the same bulbs used in '69 bcuda grill park lights. The old bulbs is what gives them the unique original look/color. They were hard to find and good money years ago.

Todays new amber bulbs are NO were's near correct color.

Yup.

and varies in shade quite a bit

Yup.

Or else they're way too close to red, so in the dark (or rain/fog/snow) it's hard to tell whether you're looking at tail lights or parking lights.
