Who has made the switch or tested both msd 6a ignition box or Mopar orange box? Is msd worth it? Any noticeable difference?

What's your combination ? Year car ,engine size ,compression, camshaft size ,gears and intended usage? ) A stock Orange box does good ,in near stock applications.
MSD, or a plug and play is nice.. Contact Trailbeast here.. I actually drove his car ,and the ignition conversion is quite clean ( and affordable)... P.M. him ,he's got game.

The orange box is good for leaving you stranded. Always carry a second one in the glovebox if that’s the route you choose.

HEI is a good damn choice too. Don’t overlook it.

New orange box is junk, I went thru two new boxes and swapped to MSD. I run a 6al box for the rev limit pill. Also have a 4 pin HEI installed that I use as a backup if the MSD box fails. Swap the distributor pickup plug and coil wires, install the power fuse for HEI power, and your running again. My used old 6al $100 swap meet box has never failed.

Been there done that twice.

IF your orange box isn’t 20 years old, then throw it away. It’s junk. The only possible use it is good for is;
To give to your enemies because I sucks
Use as a paper weight
Use as a fishing line sink
Toss at your cranky neighbors head
Take it apart so you learn what not to use
Hang it on the wall of shame.

IF you want to use the stock style ignition box system, use the chrome box. I have found the chrome box slightly better than the msd at the track. Th msd is slightly better at idle and LOW rpms. IF it doesn’t fail on you!

I ran the orange box for 5 years with no issues. Upgraded to the chrome box and kept the orange box for a spare

I have been told. The new orange boxes are junk. Unless you have an orange box from 10 yrs ago its waste of money. Now chrome box might be an option., but they cost as much as an msd box

need an orange box from the 80's or older to have a good one..

Yeah so I'll probably hook up this old msd 6a I got and hope it works still

I like the MSD better, especially at idle and low speeds. I replaced an orange box with a 6AL, much better.

Mopar orange boxes are pretty notorious for failure and pulling timing as RPM increases.

Well I'm running a mechanical distributor, 36° total with 93 octane. This msd should help over stock base ignition.

You have read the MSD claims in the instructions?
If have found them to 100% credible.
On the strip, between the MSD & the MP chrome box, I couldn’t find a difference. I didn’t have a fine tuned machine constantly running the track. It was just a quick test with a crappy driver.

The msd box I got don't work anymore. So looks like I'm gonna just go back to stock ignition for now and just buy a chrome box. When I can afford one.
