Miss Maylene

Some pictures for you all. With the holidays over and work calming down for now, I decided to get out and finish tearing the engine down. So from last night here is the progress. The bearings need to be replaced, Pistons have some scuffing on them but I think they are usable. Cranks looks great, still polished basically. The idea is get it to the machine shop and have them put new cam bearing, freeze plugs, and hot tank it. Hopefully it won’t need much more then that.

It’s a 318 already 30 over, already has KB167 pistons. It’s a good starting point. When I got the duster this engine came out of, the owner gave me a new Comp 268 cam. So that’s going into this engine. Only thing holding me up is the heads. I’m not using the stock heads. I’ve seen a few sets of of J-heads floating around but I hate how they are open chambered. I was thinking about a set of EQ magnums with the push rod tunnels clearanced. I have all the magnum valvetrain I can throw on, with the 1.6 ratio that should make that cam .508/.512 lift. It should be fun but nothing crazy.

The 8.75 is going to Mosers to be shortened and have the axles cut and resplined.

Then all I need is a trans. I probably will find a 904 I can rebuild and slap a shift kit in.

It’s getting started. We shall see where it goes!
