I used to live in eastern Kentucky and I have traveled through central Appalachia A LOT.
1. Cherokee North Carolina
2. Great Smokey mountains national park
3. Cumberland falls state park
4. Red river gorge
5. Breaks interstate park (off the beaten path with very little tourism but it’s amazing)
6. Laurel river lake
7. Dale hallow (Lilly dale is my favorite campground on the lake)
8. Mammoth cave national park
9. Grayson highlands state park
All of those parks are great. Some campgrounds at the red are not so kid friendly because of the climbing scene but it is an amazing area.
