Been thinkin of putting a 5 or even 6 speed manual into the WWIII (01 2500 5.9 gas)

I know stuff like the heavy Chev trucks, 1 1/2 --2 ton, etc, came with some big gearboxes, BUT DID Dodge......"let's say"

..........an older, heavy truck with a 318 (maybe Poly) WITH AN SAE pattern bell?

Example, an Eaton - Fuller FS6406A 6 speed

Del I know when my dad was farming we had two Dodge grain trucks, probably late 60’s models, that had (if I remember correctly) five speed transmissions.

They also had two speed axles with the big red button on the gear shift. I know they were geared low, I’m not sure we ever had them much over 65-70mph.

These were 318's? I want the bell for a magnum, actually. You remember the models?

Do salvage yards still do Hollander parts exchange cataloging ?

Del I think they were 318’s, but I was pretty young back then. I think they were D500’s or something, if I remember right.

I may be on the wrong track, here. At first I had the impression that bell went to "another piece." No, LOL the gearbox comes off. I have no idea what pattern THAT thing might be LOL

I don't think you're going to find an SAE bellhousing for a small block, typically bigger trucks with a small block would have had a Clark 5 speed or an NP435. Big block trucks did use SAE bell housings but they were massive with rear motor mounts built into them.
If you want a 5 speed the NV 4500 would be a bolt in deal, they were stock from 94 up. Those Fuller transmissions are way overkill for a small block but would be just right behind a Cummins hint hint....

I have an early 70s truck parts book at home. It includes medium and H. D models... I will try to remember to lopk when I get home.

I'd love to score a 4500 but around here they are not only "same as" platinum, but even more difficult to find. I'm just thrashing around at this point. The REAL BAD news is that the 5.9 (gas V8) pilot is not drilled at all, unlike the earlier cranks which were at least "undersize."

Well considering slant sixes came in medium duty trucks, I don't see why the 318 couldn't have. D500 and D700 trucks had slants.
