I am going to put a A body 8 3/4 rear end in my 66 Barracuda and was wondering if since the 7 1/4 has 10" brakes and the 8 3/4 has 10" brakes and everything in the 7 1/4 is new, will the brake shoes and all the hardware fit on the 8 3/4, and also can I use the park brake cables from the 7 1/4 on the 8 3/4? No sense in buying everything new again if I can just swap everything from my 7 1/4 over to the 8 3/4. If anyone knows please chime in.
Thanks
Bob

Yes on parking brake cable. Im pretty sure all the brake stuff will swap over as long as you use the correct backing plate.

I dont know about the shoe width between the 7.25 and 8.75. check that first.

Nope, the 7.25 brake shoes are 2", the 8.75s are 1.75" so the 7.25 shoes will be to wide for the 8.75 backing plates.

I have a 7 1/4" out of a 1972 Dart that has 10" brakes. I just went out and pulled off one of the drums and measured the brake shoe width. This one has 1 3/4" brakes. Everything looks just like the brakes on my 1969 Dart with 8 3/4 and 10" brakes. I can't say if the backing plate to axle housing connection dimension is exactly the same.

When I did my 66 swap everything swapped over without hassle. Including cables and wheel cylinders.

So I just finished the brake swap from the 7 1/4 rear end which had 10" X 1.75" brake shoes to the 8 3/4 rear end which also is 10" X 1.75" brake shoes. Everything fit great except the parking brake lever's they had to be changed, they would not allow the shoes to sit correctly on the backing plates and I also used the 69 Dart style adjusters and the self adjuster hardware. I disconnected the park brake cables from the backing plates of the 7 1/4 slid them out and just re-installed them into the 8 3/4. The reason I used the 69 Dart self adjuster hardware is because this 8 3/4 axle came out of a 69 Dart and I liked the looks of 69 setup better than the 66 style. I was even able to use the same drums that were on the 7 1/4 also. I had ordered everything new before I did this swap not knowing that just about everything is inter changeable. So for those of you who are doing this swap if the brake components are like new on your 7 1/4 which mine were, then you can use just about everything on your swap.
