I got a nice new shiny tight gas cap "shout out to sjd234 on Ebay."

However because the gas line is parallel to the ground and not slanted upwards like in modern cars, everytime I fill up as Im pulling the pump out, gas spills onto my back quarter panel. Any have tips on avoiding that?

Keep a paper towel with you? No matter what I'm driving it always spills out cause the left over gas in the gun

I leave the key on accessory, and insert the gas pump upside down, so the handle is on top. I watch the gauge on the dash to make sure I don’t go over. A much better experience.

I got a gas filler restrctor (here) pollutioncontrol2 which helps by adding back pressure to the gas pump nozzle and acts like a newer car does, it has been on my best friensd car for over 3 years now and not one spill yet other than he didn't have the nozzle in the opening and pressed the lever (DUH moment for him, watching a girl and not the nozzle). Also a new cap repop from SlantSixDan which works awesome and I should have bought 2(1 for the wifes dart)

Put less in . That is what I do in my 65 Valiant wagon. The wagons are even worse than the cars for this problem and with anything over 7/8th of a tank it will spill out when you make a left hand turn

I never fill my tanks over 1/2 full.
Short bursts around town is pretty much all I do.

Ah, interesting.

I have one as well, they work great. Its definitely worth installing one.

I'll add that there are several prior posts about this. I recall the restrictor plate is the best solution, but I haven't used.

the fix for the fill is the restrictor plate to add more back pressure when filling up.

get the smaller size

but the total fix was restrictor and a new super nice sealing gas cap so when I make those hard turns a tank that ss really full doen't slosh up and leak out the cap. 3 years of the one friends car and 6 for another. but he did have ot replace his gas cap since it started leaking down the quarters on hard turns. I think he bought one of damnraiders cnc gas caps the have a neoprene o ring To help seal the tank.
link is here
Stop spilling gas

66DartSedan , thanks for your business and the shout out! Valiantwagonguy , if you use my Cap it won't spill out on hard right hand turns any longer because of the O-ring seal I use. Thanks again, Steve

Yeah man, I love your gas cap, it' not only tight and functional but beautiful too. My only issue come with putting gas in the car.

just put the restrictor in like in post 11 and you can fill up your tank full speed. I do on 3 65's,1 66 (so far) an 2 64's. both darts and valiants. aghhhh! that is a little white lie.... I have to slow down on flying J's pumps cause it kicks off the damned nozzle. But most places I can do a fast fill up.

This might sound dumb butttttttttt. When I'm filling up when it gets close I listen at the gas tank opening, when the gas hits fill tube you can hear it. Stop then put cap on and you have a full tank. I've been doing this for four years now and never have it spill out any more. Of course you look like a idiot bending over and listening to your gas tank, but you get used to it :)

I do that, but usually there's background noise and can't hear it.

I fill until it's at the curved lip and ready to drip out.

damraider, can you put up any information on your caps. I tried contacting you thru our PM here however something isnt working as it comes up error.
Thanks Rod

Funny. I too have been a "Tank Whisperer" for 25 years now on my 65 Valiant Signet convertible.
