My molasses solution wasnt working fast enough to rid the rust out of the pitted metal. I used a bit of muriatic acid to remove all traces of rust, and rinsed thoroughly with TSP and water solution to prevent flash rust, and thoroughly dried. Then i sprayed the inside with rustoleum cold galvanizing compound. Areas where i plan on welding i will grind to bare steel and spray with 3M weld thru ll primer. I am very happy with the results so far. I think the cold galvanizing spray will work pretty good. Its used on welds to galvanized pipe. Seems to hold up well there in the weather.
Theres a little rust left on the ends, but i plan on cutting it down a bit and those parts will get cut off in the process.
