First oil change on new Ram.

Jiffy Lube DIDN'T come about til 1979 so much for the 70's..as for the original poster change your oil when you feel it needs it oil and filters are cheap enough to buy..change mine every 3000 could careless what all the so-called expert's think:):):)

Those experts include all of the auto manufacturers engineers who set oil change standards.

I always change oil for the first time at 500 miles,I’m hoping that it gets most of the impurities out so it’s not floating around in there for an extended time. When I build an engine , it gets run in then the oil is changed. Then 200 miles it gets changed , then again at 500 miles. Kim

oil change places want money and say 3000. dealers want money by selling u a new vehicle more often. has always been a good rule to do the first change early - say 3000. after that go around 7000
Manufacturers sell vehicles so....they want them to wear out quicker so you will buy a new one. I am in the auto repair industry and my experience when you change oil at 5,000 mile intervals all is well. But start doing 7,000 to 10,000 mile oil changes and the engine wears out alot quicker.

bullshit.... have a mini cooper in the driveway with 110,000 miles on it and the oil has been changed at 10k intervals since day one, had a Toyota echo with 180,000 miles on it when i sold it (girl i sold it to took it well over 200k) with oil changes at 7k since new. then a toyota yaris with 160,000 when we sold it with 7k miles oil changes since new. all ran/run great at those high miles... synthetic oils are awesome these days. hell even conventional oils are aweseom compared to years ago.. efi has so much nicer mixtures over carbs, machining process is light years a head of what it used to be. **** at 10k the oil is barley brown in my honda that has 45k on it now. that runs a semi synthetic oil..

Remember if you change your own oil keep all the receipts or they can void the warranty.

Id break it in completely on dino oil, right up to the handbook mileage. Then Id go synthetic just because it holds its viscocity better than dino. 10K is a long time but if you drive it like a taxi, Id do it sooner. Long freeway drives would stretch it out. Diesels fouls oil way faster than gas motors but the black isnt dirt; its <1 micron soot that is non wearing.

My 2015 HO 6.7 Turbo diesel has had 2 changes and only at 6900 miles. The dealer offers free changes and begs me to come by every time they think the truck should be ready.

It’s free so we bring it in.

I change the oil on my DD based on time of season in the fall in Chicago. I change it in the spring based on the OLM which is usually 5-6K miles. I generally don’t worry about the internals. I use Mobil 1 and generally dump the car by 50-60k miles. Although the 2017 I might keep forever to pass on to my son.

I worry more about keeping swirl marks and holograms out of the clearcoat.

I also have a 2017 ram I am going to take it in at 3K for the first oil change, since its free.
After that when the change oil light comes on.
Manufactures have a warranted
for a reason, they are not stupid.
The dealer will do my oil changes until warranted
is up.

On my old 03 Wrangler, change oil ever 10K miles, spin the filter off a 5K with synthetic, keep driving.

Old mopars, change it 1,000 since they don't get driven much.
