Just curious what to value my Dart at incase i want to trade it for anything

72 Dart Swinger
225 /6, a903 (3spd manual), 7 3/4 rear with 3.26, 120k original miles. Interior is all original with very minor wear, no tears or cracks. 1 owner (till me a month ago), with original paper work. PO meticulously maintained it. No leaks inside or out, only rust is around the rear fenders and a small hole under the drip rail, and a dent on the driver rear quarter. All trim is there, and comes with 2 trunks worth of spare parts. Tires are a year old, new gas tank, and rebuilt shifter column.

I was hoping to see an original unmolested car with original paint! you did all that in a month! what a shame.

By the time i had sanded down the rust and primed over it, i figured i might as well finish priming the entire vehicle. Once i finish the body work, its getting a fresh coat of paint.

..maybe it's just the picture - what is going on with the firewall where the heater core is? It looks like it's been carved out - that area should be yellow. Like this:

I love the car. I'm also too far away and have little cash...lol. I think the sanding and primering will scare a few people. Better off having a poor paint job than leave it urban commando. I would call it $1000-1500 as it sits, running and driving.

Well thats

Well thats disappointing since i bought it for 4k. Every other dart (rollers, /6, etc) that are in a lot worse condition are going for like 3.5k around me.

WOW! i think you will lose money on this one. i'm not seeing a car worth 4k.

i agree with moper the primer hurts it. i'd wonder what its hiding. especially with that dent in the top of the quarter.

So primer would worry you, but another paint job would not?

You paid what you felt comfortable with. No reason to feel bad if what you saw was worth that.
But... Perception makes the deal. In my experience primer is a warning sign. I can see what's under paint in most cases. Primer hides a lot. SO cheap, orange peely, and shiney, all one color will always "feel better" to me than perfect steel dressed in only primer. Plus - primer is porous. So water is reaching the metal, even if in small amounts. So first thing I'm doing is stripping it down to metal and starting fresh.

Take a razor blade an get the over spray off the glass. That will make it look better.
The dent in the rear quarter sucks big time. That's a hard one to fix. It' not unfixable but it ain't easy or cheep.
That car screams out that it was hit hard in the rear and folded the *** up. The new fenders, hood and scoop tell the same story. (Rearended HARD, like demo derby hard...)

My 71 Dart cost 3K. V8 car with no rust and mine had white interior not nasty green. Also I think your Dart emblem is in the wrong place for 72. Shouldn't it be on the fender?
Why is the origial paint yellow and the guts green? You got four colours on that car... and a hood scoop that I can see the screws holding it on from my phone....

Also yeah the spray bomb primer is bad. If it was PPG epoxy primer then it wouldn't worry me but that ain' 2 part primer....

Yellow and green are the original colors, thats the original interior. The black was just painted on it, i was going for the hemi stock look just for the fun of it. Car was not hit from the rear, it had a tree fall on the quarter; thus making that dent. Extremely straight apart from that.

I think you should just drop a V8 in a drive her. I dig the look. Looks like my car before she changed into a race car.

Paint the car green to match the guts. Leave the hood flat black, paint the stripe on the *** in flat black and BAM! You got a bad *** car!

I wish I still had the pics but there' a guy near me with a green and black dart that wins a LOT of shows....the combo really pops!

Paint wise, thats the plan (though maybe a white stripe). But i want to keep the slant 6 for now (i do plan on beefing it up).

My opinon is you fucked your self on the slant. Can't have the big hole in the hood and anything less than a V8 under it.

Again just my opinion but 3 colours is to much. Just reminds me of being broke and driving shotty cars.

Black hood is OK but when you go and pick up your date she WILL ask " why is the hood black?" With the V8 you can answer "because MOPAR race cars had a blacked out hood so the sun don't reflect into the drivers eyes." Then do a big smoky burn out, (one leg is OK for now, she won't know) and drive her out to dinner....

:)
