This thing has only 1 summer on it. I think it doesn't look too good.........

You can see those weird hot spots at the 12 o'clock position. Think it was making a bit of noise when starting out on hills late in the year.

Think I should just run it, or can it?

Ouch. That thing looks like it got pretty hot. Do you have pictures of the clutch plate and flywheel? I'm curious to see if it was totally destroyed. Either that clutch got rallied or it didn't have enough freeplay when engaged or disengaged.

Heat spots, don't run it.
Check your flywheel, If it has heat spots, you may be able to have it Blanchard Ground, if there are no cracks in it.
May be looking at a new clutch set up and flywheel.

Oh good grief. It's part of a clutch. It is made to get hot. Get a wire wheel on an angle grinder and buff it off good. It will be fine.

Lucky, for you I can see places where the disc is transferring some material to the pressure plate. That's a good thing to keep parts breakage down.

Like RRR said, buff that mutha humpa off and go.

I had a Hayes racing clutch and It looked a lot worse than that, I sent it to Hayes and they disassembled it reground the plate replaced a I bolt and sent it back and the price was very cheap.

Do you think this transfer of material is happening at the launch? The plate actually looks ok. Just a sintered iron disc.
I just didn't like the occasional whining I was hearing when I'd start out on a hill.
Putting a bit more motor in there and now that it's out, I just didn't know if I should replace it or not.

I don't think I've ever pulled one out of any of mine that looked that GOOD

Crap, I have to go against the grain here.
Even though people have had worse and used them without any apparent problems those black/blued spots mean the metal in those spots got hot enough to surface harden.
Now those spots will wear slower than the rest of the surface causing premature disc wear and in some cases even chattering on engagement.

This isn't just a guess or an opinion by the way.:D

Now that said, if I gave the plate surface a quick surface sanding and those marks came out for the most part I would feel a bit different about it, but I'd bet they don't.

Opinions vary, and that makes good discussion.

Change it out for a borg & Beck get rid of that diaphragm piece of crap.
Jmho
Hey man I agree but I'm running a hydraulic TO bearing. American Powertrain says "we don't recommend B&B style pressure plates". Don't see a real reason why not, except maybe diameter-wise....

What bell housing are you using?

The B&B was the go to piece forty years ago, but the newer diaphragm plates are every bit as good and IMO better, because the clamping forced has improved greatly and they are so much easier to operate......specially if you have old knees.

I gave seen a lot of pressure plates, this isnt the worst i have seen.
Heated so bad there are fractures on the surface, blue like a gun barrel and still worked.

Orbital sander and some 220.
If it cleans up,run it.
If it doesent, run it.
A clutch is a service item, like brakes, run it until it actually is in need of replacement.
