What I mean by sheet metal is your 20ga or 18ga pieces that you use for small patches. All I have around where I live is Home Depot and steel yards that want to rip you off and arnt friendly to deal with. Would any of you recommend any online sources or good brick and mortar places in the central Florida area? Thanks!

Do yu have an IMS (industrial metal and supply)? I can buy by the lb or in sheet. Usually lots of remnants to pick over at .50 a lb.

I have scored a few pieces at a local welding shop. They always have a scrap bin and a few dollars for beer money will get you a lot.

Yea, I live near Akron and there are steel warehouses that sell anything
sometimes I have to go to Canton to get a piece of sheet metal. I just checked and a piece of 18ga 8ft x 10ft is $74.00, I can get 1" x 1/8"
angle iron 20ft for $13.00

OOPS, I mean 4ft x 10 ft

Look for nearby production scale fabrication and metal craft shops. They'll throw away what most of us fight over. Stay out of the art shops, they would use the filings if they could

I have a friend that has a small fab shop - I get mine for the cost of a few Bud Lights!

We have a place here called the metal supermarket. They have 80 locations including Jacksonville, Tampa and Orlando. Not sure if any are near you but the place in Buffalo is great.

give these guys a call. They are near you. FYI, I paid 65 bucks locally for a sheet of 18 gauge, 4ft wide, 10ft long. just to give you a rough idea

Thanks again for all the help everyone! I found a shop here locally called Jones Sheet Metal; the owners name is Woody and he was very helpful and let me dig through their scrap pile and sold me a nice sheet of 18ga that will be enough to finish my whole car for $18. Said I could come by anytime! They also make patch panels there for simple auto body repairs; there was a guy who walked in with a piece of bent up wire and said: “I need this bit about 26” long!” Very nice people who gave me exactly what I was looking for!
