Before I pull the trigger on some new DMT windshield rubber seal for my 65 Barracuda, does anyone make a "correct" looking lock strip? My car has the original seal and locking strip, although the locking strip has seen better days, so reusing the old isn't going to happen.

From the DMT site:

Next question.

Above the dash on my car, the rubber seal appears to have been painted. The top of the dash is a slightly different red, so I think the seal was painted with the dash by a previous owner.... Should it be left as black rubber like I think it should?

Other cars I've found on the web look like this:

Thanks everyone.

Personally i will be going with a black locking strip. The chrome ones dont last.
Same goes for my back window.

I have a 66 that will have the front and back glass removed soon, to replace the headliner and fix a rust issue close to the rear seal. My plan is to go with the chrome as it could use a little bling. I know that it wasn't original... on mine anyways, I can live with that.

So that red piece on the inside of your window.... comes off and you put it on the new gasket like the one in the second picture... if you put that red trim on your window it will look like the one on the bottom...

It doesn't look like it's a separate piece from the weatherstrip... Is it?

It's a seperate piece, and although I'm not certain of the exact correct facts on this, it seems to be found in certain color interiors! Black interior would not have it, but I've seen it in Citroen colored interiors, and red like yours!

Wait, four speed A/C early A?

I have similar issue with 67 cuda and the windshield lockstrip. Mine is a 1 year only and there is several suppliers but only one mfg.
Mcg is Precision Replacement Parts. Do a Google search.

Yes I have dealt with DMT before. No issues. I posted PRP info to see if your original style was available. As I mentioned for me 67 original style only has one mfg. I have seen 67 repops with cheap looking lockstrip. Not even close to the original look.
Just looked at their site.

It's very possible that DMT is selling their product. I don't believe they have the capability to manufacture windshield rubber.

But... at $95 with the locking strip and good recommendations from others along with the great service I've gotten in the past, I'll buy from them.

Yea, their lock strip looks just like the generic one everybody sells.

I just compared part numbers and they are all selling the same part. It looks like DMT might have the best prices.

I used the new lock strip and new rubber, it’s good in fit and appearance but certainly not factory fit.

About 40 years ago I soaked a locking strip in paint remover, and peeled off what was left of the outer chrome plastic. The inner part is black and the correct shape. It serves the purpose and looks good. I considered trying to recover, with vinyl chrome tape, but thought getting corner bends without crinkleds, would be difficult.

Try finding the lower lockstrip for a convertible 67-69 Cuda. NOS ones will run you in the $300 or more range, for an original that will stiffen and crack, and is only about 4' long!

Hi Cosgig, I was wondering if you could help me with getting to the for sale section. I'm asking because you're on line. I did a new thread under exterior parts and loaded the photos. I then went to preview. There was nothing to add after that. Will it go to the for sale section immediately or does it take a while. Thank you for your help.

No idea. I'll see when it arrives. It really doesn't matter. Goodmark is a good brand and the chrome lockstrip can be purchased separately for 20 bucks, so it's still way cheaper.

If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, RockAuto has the Goodmark windshield seal for $30. Better hurry. The only had four left and I just bought one of them.

I ordered them from DMT this morning. Oh well...

Looks like Goodmark might be closing them out. $39 on their site. Chances are RA will drop ship direct from Goodmark. Interesting....

I'm assuming the Goodmark doesn't come with a lock strip and I know DMT does and I got a 10% discount at DMT, so by the time I figure in shipping and all, I think I did OK anyway.

But!! Thanks for trying to save me money!! I'm all about doing that!!

Yeah, I have the DMT one in my car and it's a great looking seal, and honestly once you factor in shipping it doesn't save that much, but for $30 I had to pick up another as a spare, because I know the day they sell out is the day something happens to my windshield and I need a new seal.
