High compression blues.

Rather than guess and possibly get it wrong again, why not call Jim at Racer Brown and have him grind you a cam for exactly what you need?

The brown truck stops everywhere, so I'm not sure what being close to the cam grinder has to do with anything.

To find what you want, the chances of an off the shelf cam being the correct one is slim to none.

There is also:
Cam Motion
Jones Cams

And many others. Even if you called Schnieder and talked to them and let them pick a grind. I'd be damn suspicious of any shelf cam doing the job.

I guess being close would make it arrive faster with geography being what it is and all.
And seriously, yes, I'm learning that I'm headed toward a custom grind to meet my special needs. Just doing a little fishing for opinions from my smart friends here at fabo.
I'll be on the phone a fair bit tomorrow getting it all figured out, I suppose. I'll keep y'all updated. And thanks everyone for the help.
I probably should have stated more strongly that I was going to upgrade anyway. Just trying to stay away from ping issues in the future as well.

I think they will have a better grip on what to do exactly. Your combo is a little weird. I’m not sure of your exact goal/target and willingness to change gear ratios, converter upgrades, etc....
I also don’t know what’s in your wallet.

I recently built a Dana 60 with 3.54 gears and bought a nice converter from Lenny at ultimate that flashes to around 3800. I'm going to stick with those two items and have a cam ground to work with my combo.
I don't have space for a trailer right now so this car will be driven about 17 miles to the 1/8 mile track and about 50 to the quarter mile track. Plus, I'm running the equivalent of 12.15-ish now and I'll have to make major changes at 11.50(roll bar, etc) so, for now, I'd like to get the car as close to 11.50 as possible while remaining a street/strip car.

I agree with YR. If you call a cam company get the good grind guy on the phone not the sales rep desk jockey

Billy G at Comp
Jim at Racer
Tim at Bullet

The E85 swap is a great idea except we don't have many pumps out here. When you have to trek 20+ miles to a pump, not so convenient.

Yep. Will post some results tomorrow guys. Will be interesting to see what's recommended!

Yep. I'd do E85 in a New York second if I didn't have to drive an hour one way to get it.

Yep. Probably check in with bullet and racer brown, tomorrow.

In the first post you said you had a Bullet cam.

Did you talk with Bullet when you bought that?

Thanks Bob! I'll check that cam out. Not sure if a roller is in the budget at the moment though.
Also, born in Tulsa, raised in Broken Arrow, college in Norman and now I'm stuck in California, lol.
I was out in the Victorville, Apple Valley area for 4 yrs., worked at Victor Valley plbg. Rode a 500 Suzuki quadzilla in a small gang, was a blast! But couldn`t wait to come home, once an Okie always an Okie, I guess. ---------I`m Sooner born, and Sooner bred, when I die, I`ll be Sooner dead ! Keep us posted on ur hotrod build !------bob

I know nothing about big blocks.
So I don't know if this helps but, the only way The Wallace calculator gets close to 200 psi, is if the static C/R is up at 12.8/1
I used 4.32x3.75= 440cid, with 6.77 rods, the cam specs of 292/296/110 in at 106* for an ICA of 72*
Where did I goof?
or maybe you want to have your tester re-calibrated?
Just for kicks I retarded the cam in the program to 113 (-3*), and dropped the Scr to 12.5 with a thicker gasket and this is what i got;
an ICA of 79*,Scr of 12.5, 177 psi
Looks doable to me, but,I know nothing about big blocks.
I'm actually hesitant to post, cuz i might get my azz kicked again.

IMO for your application, a 106 install was maybe not the best idea in the first place, a 109(split overlap) woulda been my first choice. But what do I know, lol.

Yep. Back before I was bitten by the drag racing bug. Also, I wasn't thinking I'd have so much cylinder pressure and the builder thought we could get away with everything without pinging. Again, live and learn.....

I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could!

Did you tell Bullet you'd have 10.5:1 or so static compression?

Yeah, after all we got earthquakes, tornadoes, hail, rain , flooding , snow , and 100 degree hi humidity , sometimes 4 of them all in the same day! What more could u ask for !?! BOOMER SOONER ! You wanna go where everybody knows ur name ----------------------cheers !

Well I think it's time for a true internet b**********and at least I could admit it! To throw his hat in here with all my vast knowledge which is none with a big block?!
I personally talked to Ken at "Oregon cam grinding" (in Washington?lol). He was a recommendation from my machine shop. We had a few conversations and he decided to give me what I wanted LOL and I liked it. Really I think I sent him my cam and he ground it for like 75 bucks or something?. He was a nice guy to talk too and I'm left with the impression that quite a few of his cams he's raced himself. I would agree that I wouldn't be worrying about time or money associated with not getting one locally because I believe anyone would get you one within just a few days pretty cheap. And exactly to the T what you want. I also recommend making sure it's cut with a stock base Circle so you don't have to get custom pushrods. My_2...

I hate it when you're right, but at least I can admit it.

Switch over to E85 if it available in your area....
