You need to pull the pan and push it back up from the inside.
Nothing to it really.
Then while the pan is still off you can put the lever on.

I've been there a few times to replace seals. I don't recall how its assembled though. There had to be a snap ring or something omitted. Never had a shaft push away from me like this.

it only happens to me RedFish.

As mentioned, it's not that bad. Drop the pan, line the comb and throttle lever up, push em back up through the case, and put the snap ring on from the top side.

I did the exact same thing on a neon trans not too long ago, and the fix was easy I realized I forgot that clip :)

Yep. Pan has to come off, be sure the lever is engaged properly in the pressure valve. Here is a pic from the net showing the washer and snap ring that should have been there, externally on the shaft. Make sure the small seal is there and properly seated.

great pic I may as well replace the seal too.

Yep, sorry about that Don.
It's missing the clip and probably washer both, and the smaller seal goes under the washer with the lip side facing down.
You can get a clip and washer both at an Ace Hardware, and the clip is just a basic E clip.
If I remember, the washer is thinner than a normal washer, (maybe not)
Also expect the seal to be all rubber and not metal clad like the pic d55dave posted.
Either is fine.

WELL there could be another problem i forgot about a casting crack that a mopar nut called it.he says its right in line on the outside of the case what do you all think.

That doesnt look to me like a crack, it looks like a casting parting line. There are two seals, the metal clad one is probably 1 1/4" in diameter goes on the outside of the big shaft, where the rag is wiping in the picture above. The smaller one is all rubber and is probably 3/8" in diameter and goes inside the big shaft at the top under the washer.

Ya its not a crack, just got it back from the tranny shop, they installed selector seals, rear tail stock seal, dip stick seal, convertor seal, pan gasket and filter for a good price, now i am ready to put it all in.thanks again boysssssssssssssss.
