Hey Gents:

I am moving forward but stumbling with my Resto-Mod. Here's my trouble:

Upion a full rebuild and dropping the Engine in my Sport Coupe we did a temporary (testing) Wiring setup so we could run the engine for a few hours, making sure everything was fine (and it was).

BUT: now that a full 100% electrical wiring Harness replacement has been performed I start the car instantly when cold.... it warms up and randomly konks out. After which restarting the car is impossible.

Here are the components:

1) MSD Blaster 2 Coil - maybe defective? But why does it startso well cold?
2) Summit Racing Electronic Distributor and Module. Module heatsink doesn't appear to overheat (I checked)

Any and all Help greatly appreciated.

I'm inclined to think it got flooded:

What is the outside temperature when this happens, averaged over the previous 3 or 4 hours?
How long after start-up does it stall?
What carb is on it?
does it have a functioning choke ?
with a functioning choke pull-off?
Have you tried to adjust it?
Is the vacuum advance hooked up?
Does it stay running if you pump the pedal? ....or does this make it worse?

Or could it be that a fuel line is getting hot and vapor locking .. It has happened to me on a few mopars that the fuel line was getting hot :steering:

Ditto or the carb fuelmbowl is t being filled. The pump is having a problem drawing fuel up the line.

Basics..........compression, spark, fuel

Immediately after it "conks out" check the spark. Get yourself prepared so you can do this immediately. Get a "rig" a solid core wire for the dist. and a spark gap. Check spark USING THE KEY to crank

Look down the carb throat, look for good solid streams out of the accelerator pump nozzles

^^and as above^^ might be flooded. Consider pulling a plug, check for gas fouliing

* Outside temperature is between 70-75 deg
* Stalls maybe a min or two after Water temperature reaches max. (Car isn't rolling.. still have other work to perform w/Gearbox so focusing on engine for now)
* Carb is Edelbrock 1404 Performer - Manual Choke.
* Choke not Functioning / Installed at the moment.
* Vacuum Advance is hooked up.
* Car starts and revs smooth until it konks.

* Will look into this...

Don't discount that ANY component, new or not can fail. Bad coil, bad ignition, might even be fuel pump especially electric

As mentioned, running out of fuel or float not adjusted, overflowing flooding out.
If not that, electrical. By pass ballast resistor temporarily. Check Ignition box ground. Swap out coil with another.

Also check the pickup in the distributor, They do fail, also heat it with a hair dryer when you do get spark and see if it quits come across that once in a while even on new.

Could even be the pickup gap adjustment, as it is common for an engine to die if the gap is too big as the engine/distributor warms up.

Well if the engine is already up to temp, then I think at 70/75 ambient, we are long past needing choke, and I'm past thinking flooded.
At this point I would look for an interruption in the fuel delivery system, starting with the fuel-tank vent.

I would think verifying a spark after it quits would be the next step because it is so easy to do and can eliminate the spark as a problem while the engine is still warm.

Just so you know, twice now I have seen engines act like yours and it was the distributor connector warming up and loosing contact.
Just squeeze the female parts of the connector down a little just in case.

If its out of fuel,a stroke of throttle linkage while watching accelerator pump nozzles will be a dead give-away. Dry bowls means no shot of fuel.

My orange would run, then get warm then wouldn't start for hours, changed it out with a stock box have not had any issues for years.

Stock Box?

Being a full resto-mod, (No original parts) and being in SouthAmerica I really need to find a store / costs.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks!
