Each morning I go to garage, just to look at this Vise, big smile everytime look at it. Its firm, tight and when clamping, hold great. 5" jaw, 19" long, weight around 80lbs. Dont even think of turning sucker, it told the part between its jaw.

This vise is a vise. This is an example of how tool should be made. Share your real useful tool.

Wilton Tradesman vise. Best in the business! Sold them for 28 years!

Good looking vise! The year of manufacture should be stamped on the long keyway on the bottom of the main shaft.

I just got done freshening up my old Wilton vise not to long ago.

Whats commiefornia dude?
A tongue in cheek reference to the state of california, because of their left leaning political climate

I kid you not, if I say I determine the value of certain products (like degreasers) by seeing if they are outlawed there...if it is not legal for sale in California chances are it is a good product

I've been watching CL and local estate sales. A good vice is not cheap but my kid will be using it when I'm long gone!

Those Wilton vises go for big bucks at some sales. China vises can't compare, they crack real easy(read junk). Treat those ole Yankee made vises good, and they will last for many generations.

We have one at work. It is nice for sure..... I see them come up on Clist in my area more than I would have thought but have never needed to justify the expense of one. If I ever see one for the right price I will snatch it up but as said they get good money and are swooped up quickly....

I bought a new wilton vise two years ago. Been a very good tool so far. I suppose it is not as good as the old ones. Are made in China now?

I need a good one. My chinkeesium junk is broken. They are pretty high for a good one. Maybe I will get lucky...........naw. Probably not. lol

If ya can't find a Wilton then, look for a Reed. Great vice too.

I have the same vice as the OP. I was a maintenance guy at a chemical plant that closed, I bought it and the table for $100, the table top is a piece of 1/2" plate about 36" X 60".

I have one like the OP shows but mine is a swivel base. Got it new about 1980 for $150. Today the same model is about $600. It wouldn't surprise me if they get their base model vises from China, but I believe the top of the line units are still built here, in Franklin Park, Ill.

There is a local supply house here in Southeast Michigan called Production Tool Supply that sells both domestic and foreign stuff. They readily identify which is who, making shopping easier. It sometimes says in the text, as well as putting little American flags next to the items.

I'm looking for Wilton 8" vise, model 800 s or 800 n, this vise should weight 250lbs. Let me know if you have one. Thanks
