anybody know about 2-post hoists?

how high is your ceiling? I see you have the auto shut off above the car roof. How does it work? Is it foolproof?

My ceiling was like 11 7/8". Just a hair under 12'. We have mine set at the lower setting, but there is a higher setting too (for the crossbar). I asked the installers what they do if it didn't fit. He said if someone has a lower ceiling, they put the risers between the joists and put the crossbar above the joists. Then they mount the safety switch to the bottom of the roof joists.

Auto shut-off on mine is a simple switch that opens if the bar is hit. If that switch opens, it opens a relay and cuts power to the hydraulic pump. I don't know about foolproof. I always watch it, but like 68Dart500 said, it usually isn't an issue. I run out of lift before my Barracuda can trip it. When I have my Suburban on there, I have always stopped before hitting it.

Attaching a picture of mine with the Barracuda on it....

Edit,... swapped with pic with license plate # blocked out. Safety first!!

I see you're in Spencer. I'm over in Bedford. Do you ever get out with the cuda to the Scoop the Loop cruise in Seymour?

ok, that ended up being a wild goose chase. I think he used my price to try to extort more money from another potential buyer, because he came back demanding more money. I demured, then that buyer must have backed-out, or he was bidding with mythical money, because then the seller came back again, but I had had enough so I lowered my price a couple hundred. He said, he'd get back to me. I told him the next time he talks to me it'll have to be for another couple hundred less or don't bother me.
Meanwhile, I bid and won an auction for a Mohawk 9k# 2-post. It looks to be around 1985 vintage. It appears to be much heavier duty, and about 1/3 the price of the other slightly newer one. I'll try to document how this goes, for an FYI for anybody else thinking about such a project.

The mowhawk lift is a beast. I had been researching lifts for work recently and they had always been the top recommendation.

Mohawk is the best built lift out there, not cheap to buy but built like a tank, I have a system one in my home shop and will lift Ford f550 exended cab 4x4 trucks with no issue. Bought mine use at a auction for 2800 best money I ever spent.

you got that right. I loaded it up and drove it home, today. the columns(bare) weigh 900#''s EACH! The entire package weighs 2400#'s. It is way, way beyond heavy duty.

My neighbor was GIVEN a 9K? Mohawk, it makes my 7K Challenger look like a toy. And I was told the old Challenger was a good hoist. I use the CRAP out of mine, I have no alternative.........I cannot crawl around, anymore

yeah, I feel you. I'm getting too old to crawl underneath these projects, too, hahaha.

Congrats on that Mohawk... I've had a vintage Weaver 9k in my shop for over 20 years...built from 3/4" and 1" steel similar to your lift. Bought mine for $1800 after a two man shop sold out when one guy got a "real" job.
