FiTech EFI system

-
Just received my Fitech 3008 Main Street knit today. Sure looks nice. Now first, I need to find out what works best on the fuel setup. My thoughts are a Tanks set up for EFI, with return line and gas line connections. Really want to do this right the first time. I also got the FAST 306011 electronic ignition with the coil and ignition wires that FAST recommends.

Anyone see the new "Easy Street" unit from FiTech? 600hp $795? Start the price wars? Only thing I notice is the gold color? What's different?

Easy Street EFI – 600HP System – FiTech Fuel Injection
No timing control for 1 thing .Some don't care but for me that would be 1 of the main reasons to make the switch .
I would really like to eliminate some of the engine bay wiring while also being able to pre program multiple tune-ups into the ecu , long flat highway drive setup for max economy , high altitude mountain crossing -another setup , off to the track -a race setup .

Well, I've read all 58 pages and done my due diligence elsewhere and I have decided to jump into the FiTech market. It looks like it will be the 2x4 1200 power adder setup for my blown 340 Demon. My current setup is 2-600 holley 600's mechanical secondary's that are boost referenced. My ignition is a MSD 6AL and a MSD 8534 dizzy, (locked at 31 degrees), and MSD wires and the ballast resistor is removed. My idea is to let the Fitech control the advance as well as the fuel.

For duel delivery I am planning on using my stock tank and 3/8 sender unit. I will then have a inline filter then a Walbro 392 inline pump. I am going to use new push lock plumbing from the pump to the Fitech. I will then run a return line from the Fitech to my existing 3/8 hard line and use it all the way back to a bung in the top of my tank. Somewhere in there I will run a cutoff switch for the pump in case of any unforeseen problems such as a roll over or some other kind of accident.

I don't race the car so I feel the Walbro will be plenty to supply fuel. One of the things I have read over and over is that most of the problems people are having with Fitech stuff can be attributed to wires not being shielded good enough so I will take care of that and make sure everything is grounded good.

I do have a couple of questions though. How big of a problem is it if you have header leaks at the heads? I have never been able to get my to seal good. Can I install the O2 sensor in the header? I currently have an O2 sensor farther back and an A/F sensor as well. Boost is also monitored by a gauge.

So now it comes down to deciding where to buy it. Anybody got any discount codes for anywhere to save a few bucks? Do any of the vendors here sell them now? I may even buy a second unit for another car if I can get a good deal.

Oh, good timing. Considering the same setup so I’ll be watching to see how it works out for you.

Tanks Inc tank. Corvette filter/regulator saves running return all the way to the throttle body.

That's what I'm using. Great set up. Easy to install. Use existing steel line with the -6 an to olive fitting to connect to existing steel line, cutting off the barb on the ends where the old hoses connect. Used a Jakefab fuel puck to keep the price down as well. Can't fault it, great system, never had an issue.

I run an inline pump with a corvette fuel filter right after the pump. The filter is a pressure regulator with a bypass so my return line is 12”. Only one line needs to go to the carb

I bought the system from Pace Performance. They alo are very good with support.

I'm using Tanks Inc tank and in tank pump, LS filter reg with return right at the tank, to a 3/8 stainless line to engine. LS reg makes 58# like the FiTech wants. works good. nice and clean.

Summit Racing has a 500hp EFI kit, sure looks a lot like the FiTech throttle body with some cosmetic changes. The ECM is separate from the throttle body in this version. Wiring harness is different because of it, but many similarities. The handheld and mount look identical. Also noticed in some of the Q&A's at the bottom they refer to FiTech systems if looking for other things. Must be a FiTech system reboxed for Summit Racing.

Thought I'd share this little trick mentioned on the Fitech Facebook User's Group. If you are running an external fuel pressure regulator, you can remove and block-off the Fitech supplied one with this BMW piece. I've installed mine already and it's a perfect fit. I'm trying to eliminate the elusive sudden idle go-lean followed by go-super-rich overcompensation issue that others have reported and I think I'm a victim of also. Seems to work so far. I run an Aeromotive boost referenced external FPR. This may not help your current setup or issues, just wanted to mention it.

subcom,

I just joined the forum after lurking for a few months. I have been following this thread for a while, and finally took the plunge and got a FiTech 1200 for my supercharged 440 Duster. I've had a blow-thru for over 18 years on this car, but I now am waving good-bye to the carb and joining the 21st century, thanks in part to the knowledge and feedback here (and a few other sites).

I will share what I learn, and hope when the dust clears I will take advantage of the timing capabilities and run E85.

Goodbye, my (sometimes) trusty carb. It's not you, it's me...

I have the Tanks system mentioned (EFI tank,in tank pump, fuel sender, LS filter/regulator) The only issue I have is the Tanks fuel sender is causing the fuel gauge swing a lot as the fuel sloshes.

Do you remember the part number for the LS filer / regulator?

You are going to love tweaking the FiTech without getting stinky gas all over your hands. FYI, there is a learning curve but being able to run the data logger and see what all aspects of the system are doing recorded by the second is the best feature.

I knew someone was going to say that,,,but I do appreciate your concern,,,In that scenario, and the position of our A Body fuel tanks what is going to save the tank or the original fuel lines coming out the front of the tank?
A dana 60 and the fuel outlets coming out the back of the tank goes a long way.

By the way that reg is non adjustable but it puts out 58# just what FiTech wants.
Thanks again!
I talked with fi this morning about using my pertronix distributor. They are good as long as you have the igniter iii.

Its been mentioned on here about data logging with the FiTech system. How do I do that and what do I need in the way of connections. I have a lap top but not a ton of computer savey. I get by. I'd love to see what's going on for some adjustments. Larry

From FiTech website. You need Excel spreadsheet to open it.

Data Logging:

Data logging is a useful tool for diagnoses and tuning. It allows you to check how the many functions the system can read and go through them point by point. This allows for exact adjustments to be made

When the vehicle is running go onto the dashboard screen and press the joystick on the right of the screen IN and a message will pop up saying Data Log On. Now you will drive the car and get it to have the issue you are having. Once you finish the drive you will press the button again and this will save the data log. Then you can turn the vehicle off and wait 15 seconds for the data on the dashboard to go black. Once this happens you can take the handheld to your PC and plug in the USB cable and handheld. The handheld will light up with three menu options, USB mass storage is at the top, select this. You should see a prompt on your PC to open the handheld folder, if not go to My Computer and you should see a removable drive, select it. Once the handheld folders come up on screen find the folder labeled log_file. Select this folder and inside you should see several files inside that say Dashboard, you can click on these and they will bring up an Excel file showing the data you have recorded. You can also copy and paste these files and send them to our technicians to look at as well.
