Jeff. Just trying to find the reason your rear servo quit. In your post #262 picture #8 it is clear to see there are 4 threads on the adjusting screw outside of the jam nut. The picture in post #313 is a bit fuzzy & I cant quite focus on the adjusting screw. Did it back off? Or is there something going on with the band or it's anchor?
With regards to your valve body, when you seperate the 2 halves can you post a picture of the main VB where the valves & steel balls sit? Have your TF-2 installation instructions near by.

Thanks.....It looks for all in the world that the adjusting screw has backed off....I have NO idea how - I locked down the lock-nut.....
I'm hoping the lug is still in place because if not - 100% sure I'll have to pull the transmission back out to set it back in.....
I don't see how else the pivot arm can be in that position and the lug still be in place.....?????

Will do on the valve body.....I'm hopeful the valve body/shift issue is a simple fix.....

I was thinking the reverse servo failed because of the thin factory spring retainer?

We upgraded our servo piston, but reused the factory retainer and clip.

I'm thinking now that an upgraded/thicker retainer might not be a bad idea.

Is Jeffs problem something else? Because when I saw his picture, a failed retainer was what I assumed.

Before I get into it, Friday I'm going to take a little time to make myself a set of wooden wheel cribs. I don' feel safe under the car on 4 jack stands and it really isn't as high as I'd like.
This is just a stock Google image of what I will make...

Very simple and VERY safe.....
I'll post a materials list, measurements, etc...THEN, I can get back to work on the transmission. Should only take a few hours on Friday. ....

We upgraded our servo piston, but reused the factory retainer and clip.

I'm thinking now that an upgraded/thicker retainer might not be a bad idea.

Is Jeffs problem something else? Because when I saw his picture, a failed retainer was what I assumed.

It sure looks like the retainer failed and bent right past the retaining clip...the clip is still in place. I'll know a lot more when I get it apart.....

Ok. We bought the upgraded servo, but not the retainer. I'm planing on ordering the $25 upgraded retainer and installing on bench. Thanks, and good luck brother. Eric

Thanks.....I've adjusted my attitude and ready to fix BOTH problems (valve body too) and complete this project and get back to driving my car....Spring and Summer are right around the corner and I'll be ready!

Awsome! That's the name of the game man. Sometimes you just need to step back and change your approach. I just had that with my daily driver. Lol.

It's frustrating, but fulfilling. Lol

Yes Eric. I think it was just the flimsy stock spring retainer which holds up ok in a stock application, but with a TF-2 one of the modifications is the spring behind the pressure regulator valve. The stock spring is removed & relaced by the 2 springs in the kit. This mod effectively raises line pressure & in reverse the pressure is regulated to max. Line pressure is almost 3 times that what it is in a forward range. Full pump pressure is applied to the rev/high clutch & the rear servo piston. Another thing is, the rear servo return spring in the TransGo kit is considerably stronger than the stock item. That is the reason I strongly advise changing the stamped steel spring retainer for a billet aluminium one. Heck! 30 Bucks is better than laying on your back with transmission fluid dripping in your face! LOL

Thank you. And I agree, it's still sitting on the floor so we can do it now.

We have a pretty tight converter, so we took the "lighter" approach when given the option in the kit.
 
Great thread. Going to be looking at my transmission again. I rebuilt it many years ago,but it only has about 100 miles on it, maybe 200.
727 with a cheetah mrvb.
Had a few questions maybe someone her could answer.
Which band lever would I use for that valve body?
Would I use 12 springs behind the reverse/high clutch piston, and the two springs in the servo..
This transmission I believe is slipping somewhere. When I had it at the track it was going through the traps at 6500 rpm, but only 113 mph. I used the calculators and others have said the mph should be quite a bit higher, like 125 mph. It has 4:10 spool, 27.8 diameter tire.
Not sure where to look for the slipping issue.
Oh, and Jeff, if you think your transmission is fun to take out and put in, you should try mine. 440cid with pro part headers. That transmission is fun .

The 5/16" square socket will fit both adjusters.

I picked up a inch/pound wrench.....I'll set them both to 72 and back off the correct number of turns.
Last time I just used a short wrench "snug" method. ....this will be more exact.

I always used a torque wrench. The super el-cheapo socket sets had 5/16” double square sockets in them. I did finally buy a proper square but i havent seen it in years. Havent needed it.

I had the snap ring let go too. Truck would go from 1st to locked. I replaced snap ring and piston.to get the piston out without tearing tailstock off i pushed pin out of lever,then made a mini clamp to replace pin in lever. Was a test of my patience. Especially the red rain part.
