A guy has a 5.9 for sale near me said it would pass smog, but doesnt burn oil only 150k on motor its out of a 99 ram 1500. Whats a good price to pay for one.

I got mine from a shop that pulled it from a 98 ram to put a crate motor in and I paid 200$. It had MP aluminum valve covers and MP 1.6 roller rockers. When I tore it down everything looked fantastic. He said 190,000 was on it but I’ll tell you it didn’t look it at all. I’d say 200$ to start, that’s fairly high miles.

Hes askin $400 I asked him if he would do $200 and he blocked my number. I asked him from my wifes phone on $300 and still said no. So ill try somewhere else i suppose.

If he blocked you for making a legitimate offer, keep looking. Not worth it dealing with people like that.

I have usually paid $200 for any Magnum... My local FB for sale page regularly has complete trucks for $300-400.

The self service yards here in Oklahoma are FULL of magnum trucks, jeeps, and vans. Row after row. You could gamble on the best looking and lowest mileage truck and pull the engine and I believe its around $300 for the "engine package" complete with accessries and all.

Just bought an 80k with no intake or accessories for 200. He was looking for 3.

So i paid $300 for it TBI to pan Fan to torque coverter and the stand it was on. Valve covers had a slight film of oil in them no rust whatsoever in the water pump housing or thermostat. Did a compression test on the stand all cylinders were within 10 psi of each other lowest being 155 highest being 167. Ill tear into the motor more this evening but from the looks of it this thing never even leaked any oil and sat covered inside a shipping container for the last 6 months.

I’ve seen them from $200 rough to $800 here in middle TN. I think the next one I can buy for $200 I’m going to get it and build a short block to put in the corner. After building my last LA360, I’m done with the whole hyd flat tappet Rigs.

Under the valve cover pic. Thats all for the night that thing kicked my brother and I's *** getting it out of the truck.

LKQ runs Ebay specials. If you're not in a hurry, you can find one on the cheap. I have seen them on Ebay at my local LKQ with over 150K in the 300 dollar range. This is with a 6 month warranty, so you know it's a good core. They guarantee it to be a good running engine. That's how I found my 1999 5.0 Ford engine for RobKat. It was 300 even. I rode 45 whole minutes to pick it up. Even got to flirt with the hot internet order chick.

This particular engine had 188K on it and still had good cross hatch in the cylinders. They even included intake, exhaust and wiring harness. If I had a computer, I could have fired it right off on the shop floor when I got home.

I have been tellin all yall this for years now, but it falls on deaf ears. I keep seein people buyin 100 buck motors and gettin stiff with pieces of ****. If you find one at an LKQ it is GUARANTEED to be good. How in the FFFF can you go wrong?

I would even pay 400-600 for a decent lower mileage one. Then, all you need to do is slide you a, bumpstick in it, induction and exhaust of your choice and throw it in.

Do you find their specials on eBay or their website? Where does one start?

Sign into Ebay. Search for "Dodge 5.9 engine" and then choose "nearest first". That will show up those that are closest to your area. If there is an LKQ near you, you will see their ads.

Up here in Alberta Canada I've been hunting down 88-91 roller cam LA 360's. I have 4, all from trucks and all had been manual transmission engines with clutches and flywheels. The most I've paid is 300, lowest is 150. All were complete with everything still attached. Not magnum engines but comparable.

So i finally had a reason to buy a 3/8 cordless impact. I took the top and front end junk and the heads off in about 8 mins flat. Still visible crosshatching on the cylinders, from what i can feel barely any carbon ridge . Head gaskets were original and not blown. Pulled off the rod ends and barely any visible wear on the bearings. I cut open the oil filter that was on it and it was clean. So i think all in all im gonna buy a re-ring kit and drop this thing in sometime in the summer and see what happenes.

I paid $200 for mine.
Drove a few miles to pick it up, the guy thru in a la timing chain cover and oil pan for a car.
So decent deal for a core motor.
It came out of a B250 van, and the crank ended up needing turned, it still obviously would run, but just groves, etc from neglect.
Bores clean, just needed a simple hone job.
Heads cracked, no surprise, was not going to use them anyways.
A set of KB107 pistons, proper balancing, a set of aluminum heads, fresh roller cam.
Engine makes good power in a old truck I have.

I paid $450 for a 98 5.9 with all accessories, every piece of wiring from under the hood, the ecm and fuse/relay box, and it has 87k miles on it.
