Antifreeze leak on header flange

Thats the issue with headers, you have to hang them on the studs if you keep studs. you could try slotting the end holes if there is enough meat on the flange.
 
Can't help on the removal question.
As far as recommended sealer, I rarely use teflon tape on automotive or machinery anymore.
Instead use industrial type 'teflon' pipe thread sealant paste such as
Loctite 567 is low strength
Loctite 592 is med strength
Seals good, removal is not a problem.
 
reread original post. Is this a B engine? forgive me if I'm mistaken, as I haven't worked on a B engine in probably 20 years, but aren't there 2 soft plugs on the sides of the heads? Is there an outside chance the soft plug is leaking? Just covering all the bases.
 
There are a couple small freeze plugs on the ends on the heads, and I thought that's what may be leaking, but they were completely dry
 
These are all good suggestions for sealing threads going into water jackets. One other suggestion, simpler- radiator stop leak!
