I'm grabbing a 5.9 Magnum short block to put in my '70 Duster and I want to run the LA timing cover setup which I already have, thus V-belts. The engine I'm getting has the one-piece damper and crank pulley so I'll need to use a different one. I have a Summit SFI damper with the bolt-on counterweight which I was running before on my LA 360. Does anyone know the weight offset specs for the two engines, I know the Magnums have less than the LAs but that's it. I'd like to drill out the counterweight to match a Magnum engine if possible, it would save me $100 for a new one...?

That's a bad idea unless you have a balancer to confirm the amount and location of unbalance. I would recommend you purchase the proper crankshaft damper. 65'

on that professional product balancer...all 3 weight that come with it bolt on to the same place....If you want I do have the LA weight and Magnum weight...I can tell you the difference in grams...but I probably wont be able to do it until monday.....best to send me a PM to remind me as I am getting old.

What year vehicle,is the engine out of ? ..Don't jack with counterweight, Khalid . Buy the Professional Product piece, be done with it. The v belt pulleys ,are close ...the water pump on nine, needed some shims ,to align it ,on the same plane .

You can run the stock Magnum balancer on the LA cover. We do it all the time it works fine there's no work to be done to just put it on just like a regular balancer. Use a balancer installer not a hammer. LOL

So the engine I pulled is out of a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500, I can't use the damper that's on it because it's the one-piece type, the serpentine belt pulley can't be removed to swap the V-belt one on. I was thinking of taking both dampers to my machine shop that balances crankshafts and having them do it but I'm betting that would be at least $50 and at that point I might as well just get a new damper. I guess I could sell my LA damper too if I need the money.
