Who besides me think giving your DNA freely to a company is a bad idea

Was not when I was in the Navy. Joined in 1978, they never collected a sample.

Do you know what year the military started collecting DNA? I don't remember them collecting mine. But it's possible. I know the army is in a long term study that I'm in. We will never know the results as it is for the military only.
 
No, I joined the service in 1980, before we left for rotation for Kuwait in 2002, all of us deployed, was swabbed. I was in the Air Force, maybe service selective or destination?

Started some time after I joined in December 1998. I have had to give blood samples for my DNA over 20 times for some untold reason.

Thanks. I joined in 1982 and didn't remember any DNA stuff. I've been wrong before, so if I am wrong, it won't be the last time I'm wrong.
 
Predictive Crime algorithms are being refined by advanced machine learning and AI. They are also associating (attempting) to associate gene sequences with the propensity of criminal activity. I think this alone is dangerous and false. Combine the two and we could have problems.

Yeah. The scary thing is they seem to believe genes actually do determine the person yet at the same time have no explanation for the placebo effect which is a direct example of a person changing their genetic structure just by believing that a sugar pill made them well.
 
I’ve done these DNA tests thought they were cool. I’m prior military so my DNA already in a databank. Was told I’m German decent from my mom and found out I was about 2% german lol. Dustin

I'm not sure how accurate those tests really are. I looked at DNA Diagnostics Testing a few years ago to see if they offered that service. At that time I don't think they did.

You cannot change your genetic structure. The placebo effect is something completely different and happens only in the mind.

The placebo effect happens when the mind causes certain biological processes to alter a bit. For example, in pain studies it causes the body to relax and reduce stress which in turn reduces inflammation resulting in a perceived reduction in pain. Blood pressure studies can have the same thing happen.

For specific diseases such as cancer, cholesterol, kidney failure, etc. there is no placebo effect since the change in certain biological processes that the mind can alter do not affect the disease.

I see. Genetic Structure was the wrong term I should have said expression. Say the lengthening of telomeres (sp) by meditation.

I guess what I’m getting at is the Brain forms dendrites for memory, isn’t that controlling gene expression? If old memories are no longer used then wouldn’t those dendritic structures be absorbed? I be been under the impression that neuroplasticity implies gene expression via external (microtubules) and internal electrochemical process. This makes me believe that using genetic markers for predicting human behavior can not be relied on.

Very interesting stuff to me. Thank you for your time.
