I have thought of doing the same thing. Do you have any pictures of how you did it? I was wondering if you could retain the ashtray lid so it hides the cupholder when not in use.
I WENT TO A MARINE SUPPLY STORE AND BOUGHT A STAINLESS STEEL CUP HOLDER AND PUT IT IN PLACE OF THE ASH TRAY IN MY 68 FASTBACK. LOOKED FINE. BUT HAD TO REMOVE IT TO MOVE MY SHIFTER BACK 5 ". WAS FAIRLY CHEAP TO BUY. disregard caps !
