Ebay twin turbo setup Checklist...Turbo a SBM for under $1000? :)

-
After seeing several diesels have their HoChiMin turbos explode I'd vote for a leafblower for boost...

I wouldn't buy the t bolt clamps from ebay, I ordered some and they snapped just snugging them up. If you have a rural king near you they sell t bolt clamps.

You guys need to have faith. Ive turbo ed 2. 318 in the 91 D150 and my 390 stroker 72 duster. It can be done on the cheap providing you are willing to do some homework and use known good parts. Known good to me is when hundreds of people are using them with good result. Both my builds have the cheapest GT45 turbo on them and the 91 dodge is coming up on 4000 miles on it. if it breaks :< buy/build another..... they are cheap... $178.00
I will be starting a thread on both builds soon.

I believe this completes my parts list!!!

So it seems cheap but I will tell you that it adds up quickly. It's all of the "little stuff" that sends it through the roof. Have a look at my buddy Larry's Fitech injected, twin turbo 318. What FiTech doesn't tell you is that you will need a complete fuel injection fuel system (not included) and if you want to run timing control you will need a locked out magnetic pickup distributor. These are just a couple of things. I speak from experience as well as I have a FiTech as well. There are ways around the high priced parts if you are creative. Good Luck

you will need to order a cheap set of Chebbie headers and add the Mopar flanges like above. Below is what we started with.

^^I've thought about those, but those won't fit an A body, will they?

The eBay turbos have been holding up ok as of late. Even Garrett has moved offshore.. They give away their failures by having few symptoms. Burning oil, excessive shaft end play, cracks in the housings. Excess heat can be tamed with water injection.

you're to blame for my ebay spending.lol that 20% coupon code you sent out!!

I'm on board with much of the thought process above. 8psi probably won't kill the engine...The efi should help with logging, preventing lean outs. I'm thinking the clutches in the 904 let loose before the pistons do.

guess we will see this summer. Worst case scenario.... i know a place that sells engines :p

20% off coupon code? I need one of those!

As a minimum I have read that your rings gaps need to be modified at least to run boost on a na setup and it live. As the previous member indicated 14.5 psi of boost = X2 displacement. You should have tons of low end torque if the snails spool up fairly quick. Let say 2500 rpm. That's where the fun will be 2500-4000. I did not see an intercooler, so also consider a meth kit to keep it alive. Not to forget a modified timing curve.

Also you are going to have a Ton of underhood temps to deal with to include induction of the hot air pulling back in the motor.

With a twin setup, does the air from the compressor "Y" into the intercooler or does the intercooler have two inlets for the duel turbo setup and one outlet going to the engine? I couldn't quite tell from the pictures.

I have found that you will pop a headgasket or crack a piston before the rings butt on an engine with some miles on them.

There are separate inputs and outputs to the intercooler for each turbo.

Hey caco 2120
I like your project , I have done something similar with an EBay Turbo ,
I went large single in mine
New Aftermarket GT42 Turbo Charger Oil Cooled T4 Inlet 6 Bolt Outlet | eBay
With China turbo's what I have found is some seam to be reasonable copies, and some are copies of copies .....
So I am at 10psi on an old poly , I have no intercooler , ( Carb is intercooler) I have a good boost retard and I make sure it's rich at 10psi , and it's living :) I have China 60mm wastegate , GT 42 , and blow off valve , most of the little bits and pieces ( fittings ) are EBay too..
Good luck cheers Peter

I have been looking into them for my truck lol I want to build a gas ram 1500 that will run with these stupid diesels. There is a guy on YouTube that actually has good things to say about the Ebay turbos he does say stay away from the cheap waste gates and spend the money and get a good one! But the smaller t3/t4 turbos will make a good serviceable turbo. I will see if I can find a link to his video

Do you have a thread for build yet? If so tag me in it please I want to follow!
I dont have a build thread going yet. In the process of building a house so been too crazy busy with work and laying flooring :p I have been contemplating taking some videos or even a web series when I get to it. Hopefully in the next month or so once the house is done.
