Engine's a 360, in a 79 D150. Running Hooker ceramic coated long tube headers. I'm going to be running an oil cooler using an oil filter adapter plate. I've been trying to plan the best way to run the cooler lines (to avoid heat, rubbing, sharp points etc) and was wondering what the best product is to protect the lines from the header heat? Looking for suggestions on an insulation that has a reflective outer layer, if there's such a thing that will slip right over the hoses that will be even better.

There's a nice spot to be able to run the lines almost 'through' a large gap in the headers, and go straight to the fender to mount my temp sending unit. Does this seem like a bad idea?

All comments and suggestions welcome, just trying to figure it out.

I'll try and snap some pics and post them later, to show what I'm dealing with as far as space goes.

Thanks!

Not sure there's a "best" IMO, as woven fiberglass is woven fiberglass. I used various combinations of that to slip over starter cables, transmission shift cable speedo cable, fuel line etc. Plain fiberglass as well as those with silicone covering, I used DEI brand. Plenty to choose from brand wise, DEI was readily available.

I agree. This is the minimum insulation required to have even stainless braided hoses survive over time.
A covering of reflective outer material should over that.
If its touching the header, then a wrap of something like zircoflex may be needed, although that's not great for wrapping, it won't burn or melt.

Also I strongly suggest a machined adapter or tapping directly into the block (LA engine) over the cast spin on adapter. The spin-on uses an incorrect o-ring design, moves when tightening the hoses, and partially blocks the flow when the NPT fittings are installed.
