What is the largest 14" tire that will fit properly on a 5.5 rim without any rubbing? 215/70/14 or 225/70/14 tire size? Application is stock 69 Swinger. Thanks.

You want the same size on all 4 corners? 225/70R14 will be too tall for the front. 215/70R14 should work. I've only ran 15's but its less than 26" so it should be ok.

Not necessarily, I have 225x70x14 on all four corners on my 69 Dart and they clear fine. I do have later model Disc brakes on the front and a 8 1/4 rear end. I attached two pictures.

I have 205/70R14 on my stock 67 dart with stock steel wheels etc, saggy springs. plenty of clearance front and back, BUT... there is signs that the rear tires have rubbed the inner fender well a little. Its not from straight up and down (there is 1 inch inside and outside tire to fender clearance.) it is a convertible so could have something to do with body flex?

Wheel/rim size means jack ****.

wheel width only matters if it is greater than that of the tire manufacturers measuring rim width.

9.65" section width or less fits unaltered 67-69 dart without issue.

Thanks for all the input...I guess I will have to ponder it a bit? Leaning towards the 215 option.

Have you ever replaced the rear shackle bushings? Good place for Poly.

My rule of thumb is tread width should be plus or minus 1/2" of rim width.

My car is going through a nut & bolt restoration so the rear leaf springs are brand new including bushings.

69 Dart 14"× 5.5" wheel.
I think you will be real happy with the 215/70-14 tires.
I have that size on 2 of my Darts.

Any chance of a picture of one of your darts with the 215’s? Curious about stance and look? Thank you.

Both of these cars have Chrysler 14"× 5.5" small bolt steel wheels.

No rubbing on either set.

Thanks, my last 69 Swinger was orange with black vinyl and black stripe, but I like the white much better! Good luck with your tire decision - not a lot of room in these A-body fenders for big tires.

Yes true, not much room for sure. Was your other 69 a real V2 Orange?? Or did you just paint it Orange? A 69 V2 Swinger is very rare! A friend of mine actually has a V2 with white stripe. It was built very late in 69 production.

biggest rears were firestones 245/55-14 on some rims i made for my 69 gtsport without cutting or changing anything else . but that was years ago .
