so this is what i ordered with that 20% off ebay deal.. saved me $100. didn't rally want to spend the money at the time but couldn't pass up the deal..

these are for my express truck.. like to have actual chrome slots but they are way too expensive to have redone right now. these will look close enough for now..

i have one question though.. anyone know what i can do to protect them from oxidizing? these are bare polished alumn so i know they will go to hell fast. gotta be something out there seal them right? should i have them cleared? clear powder coated? any suggestions?

I've always been told you can't clear coat them. The finish is too slick for it to adhere. I polished up a set of BBS wheels for a BMW few years ago and a repolish once a week is all that would keep them clean and nice. But I had aggressive brake pads with LOTS of dust and it was a daily driver. I never could find a "snake oil" sealant that worked very well.

Those wheels will look awesome on your Lil' Red.

Interested in the answer as I have the same question on 2 sets of wheels.

yea thats not happening.. too high maintenance for me.. the truck sits for long periods of time outside under a cover. too much other stuff to do then polish wheels one a week..lol

You can clear coat with a number of products.

I think you can even clear powder coat

BTW: Good lookin wheels Joe!

Got my tires I ordered on the eBay discount today too! Thanks again!

For keeping the wheels nice, there's a lot of products. Stay away from the wheel cleaners and only wash them with the same stuff you would wash the rest of the car with.

I really like Collinite 850 Metal Wax for shiny stuff. It's simple to use and hard to beat. It is the only thing I will use on chrome.
Liquid Metal Wax » Collinite

The whole Collinite line is pretty good stuff and a lot of detailers swear by their 845 Insulator wax.

Digging those US mags Joe
Are you sure they dont already have a clear coat on them ?
If not, and they are going to be outside, I would keep a mag polish/wax protectant on them.
You can also grab a set of wheel covers, like they use on RV's. The covers will help protect the wheels, plus protect the tires from the harsh sun. I personally wouldn't spray any clear on them. Yellowing flaking down the road would be worse.

I use Mothers Aluminum Mag wheel polish, but you can't let it go to long if its outside.

..you know some 000 steel wool and some elbow grease does wonders on chrome.. as long as it's not rusted through - I bet you those original wheels would clean up just fine.. but I like the new ones too :steering:

Originals are peeling. Need new chrome. At $359 a wheel that can wait. Lol

Autosol metal polish twice a year on my motorcycle aluminum parts and they come up like chrome shinny. Polish in the spring and the fall and wash between. Clear coat will peel, better to polish

The wheel shop I use can powder coat them clear, no problem. It runs around $80 per wheel.

I had the ones for my SRT redone with black pockets and polished CNC face plus curb rash repaired and clear coat about 6 years ago and they still look like new. They were a bit more at $135 per wheel.

talked to my powdercoat buddy today.. he said no problem to clear them.. should still look chrome when done he said.. he said about $30 a wheel... hopefully i'll drop them off next week... then i'll need to find 275/60-17 white letter tires i like for them..
