Insulating From Header Heat

Not sure there's a "best" IMO, as woven fiberglass is woven fiberglass. I used various combinations of that to slip over starter cables, transmission shift cable speedo cable, fuel line etc. Plain fiberglass as well as those with silicone covering, I used DEI brand. Plenty to choose from brand wise, DEI was readily available.

I agree. This is the minimum insulation required to have even stainless braided hoses survive over time.
A covering of reflective outer material should over that.
If its touching the header, then a wrap of something like zircoflex may be needed, although that's not great for wrapping, it won't burn or melt.

Also I strongly suggest a machined adapter or tapping directly into the block (LA engine) over the cast spin on adapter. The spin-on uses an incorrect o-ring design, moves when tightening the hoses, and partially blocks the flow when the NPT fittings are installed.
