A body gas tank.

I think it fits just fine, but the later tank may have an extra vent tube on the front that you don’t need. You just have to figure out how you want to deal with that vent tube if it’s there.

My 71 had the charcoal canister, my current 70 does not.

Also, when a vehicle was built for model year 1971 can mean whether it has the vent tube or not.

Kinda like my ‘69 GTS, it was built in Oct ‘68 so it doesn’t have headrests that were required for ‘69 because the law only applied to ones built after Jan 1, 1969.

IDK about Darts but a 67 Barracuda has one restraining strap running left to right. Somewhere along the way they changed to 2 straps running fore and aft. I think 68. Aftermarket tanks accommodate either year but a factory tank probably does not. The difference being recesses in the tanks stamping for the strap.

You are correct. Both the Barracuda and Dart had the single strap in ‘67. They were changed to the dual strap in ‘68. Good catch, I missed it. The OEM ‘71 tank won't fit in the ‘67.

I'm not convinced it wont fit, it just wont be restrained correctly.
I modified my 67 barracuda to accept the two strap version. I used the trunk provisions from a 70 dart.
I cut the slots in the frame cross-member for the other end. I'm a little worried about the cross-member because I think the factory reinforced those areas where my 67 is not.. yet.

I got the tank today and there are no vents at all? only vent is on the top of the filler neck. what year would this be for? best part was it was free so I will make it work and when I looked inside the tank and sending unit look like new!!

Not sure what year it may be but make sure the vent isn't plugged. Little critters like to plug em up.

67 to 69 is different to 70 and up
beside the strap the fill tube is in off 1 to 2 inches

My new tank had the extra vent tube in front, I ran it up in high in the trunk, w/ a couple of coils on it and back down thru the floor to the bottom of the frame level. Also took the original out of the frame, to run along side it. Haven`t had gas come out of either one yet .
